I just came across this tweet and it absolutely horrified me. What stands out to me more and more as time goes on, is the blatant abuse of power that seems to go nowhere. In the UK, I recently read that a law to criminalise street harassment was overwhelmingly voted against in Parliament, and no doubt by many men.
It’s terrifying. It genuinely is terrifying how men are so cold towards women’s safety, probably in huge part due to the fact that subconsciously, they see themselves as a perpetrator and therefore empathise with rapists and abusers.
I grew up abused, and unfortunately now I think it’s very naive to me to share this with men. But of the times that I did, the men I told did not care. They sought to defend the men (whom they didn’t know) and make excuses for them. The women of course, were horrified and supported me fully.
We really do need to coalesce as women because a world run by men is not protecting us in the slightest. Roe v Wade is also evidence of the subjugation against women above any life arguments.
Everyday I get more and more sick of men trying to use their power against women, and to hold them down. I really hope women can gain so much more authoritative power.
I read through the thread. She did everything she could to bring attention to the woman being raped and still no one stepped up to help. Men blamed her for not confronting the man actively raping an unconscious woman. Her husband watched the perp run away once she started to call attention. Be careful who you keep in your life, because you can't expect bystanders or even cowardly law enforcement to protect you.
This lady is a hero, she has not stopped, she has been trying to get in touch with the media, she’s been calling cops supervisors, I freaking love her.
