I’ve been thinking a lot about the witches that were burned in the US and Europe hundreds of years ago. Social historians believe many of these women were killed because they were property owners and if you’re dead, they can take your property.
I would have been burned as a witch, 🧙♀️ I’m sure of it! I’m 49, financially independent, live alone in a paid-for cottage with my pets, trees and garden, don’t have much use for men, love my women friends. I'm not on social media and donate a lot to animal rescue charities. I'm living my life for me and contributing in ways I can.
I'm terrifying, right?? Use me as an example to scare your children! That horrible scary lady living all by herself in the trees with a cat.....run away!!!!! We terrify the patriarchy.
I’m leaning into the witch aesthetic! My goal isn’t to be a 70 year old who looks like a 40 year old. I want to age gracefully and be a mentor to young women, which I already am at work. I want to exhilarate in owning my own home with my own animal and plant friends. I want to walk in the woods by myself, which I already do. I want to be free and independent. Why can’t this life be a goal for women?
Why does it have to be “Be a mother and then a grandmother! You better love taking care of them kids!! You better love taking care of a man! Have a diamond on your finger and a man at your side at all times! Smile big for Instagram!”
I kicked my second husband out because he was not an equal partner. He is still in my life, but I was tired of doing all the work, like so many women. I’m so glad I’m not having to meet society’s expectations that I take care of a man. The only reason he is still in my life is because he helps me with projects at my house, and I help him with some of his work stuff, so now it's equal. And he takes me out on our speed boat. See? Doing what benefits ME not what benefits HIM. Plus a man toting a power tool is sexy.
Women’s rights in the United States, are being eroded. Who knows, maybe in another 30 years they will try to take away the property of independent women. Women are dying right now due to lack of reproductive health care.

The origins of the witch thing actually started with women brewing beer. Women were the first to brew beer and they would wear these tall pointy hats to be able to be seen in the crowded markets. You would look for the pointy black hat peeping up outside of the crowds :) Then the cauldron came from the stirring on the large vats of beer. And all legend of them casting spells using herbs came from using hops and grains to make the beer
I want all of this, especilly the trees and boat. But I also want wild, gray, witchy hair. Demure doesnt suit me as well.
It's not as far away as you think, unfortunately. At least when it comes to houses and apartments.
I live in a country with a housing crisis and they are already debating limiting the space a single person can legally occupy alone (basically the size of a small studio) which would lead to single people occupying larger houses our apartments being forced to either move or take in roommates - even if they OWN the property.
And guess who lives alone in large-ish houses and apartments? Widows after their husbands died and the kids moved out. Single women who prefer the safety and convenience of not having to live with a partner or roommate and can afford it.
Single young people are also blamed for causing the problem because instead of moving from their parents house to a shared apartment with their spouse after the wedding -like it happened in the good old days- they dare to move out from home to live alone. And let's face it: that also targets women because men moving out from home to live as a bachelor for a while before getting married has always been the case.
Most people don't realize this here but if legislation like this ever passes, women will be the ones who suffer most. We'll be forced to continue living with abusive partners or family members, take in shady roommates and if we ever make enough money to own property, we'll be kicked out or forced to take in strangers instead of being allowed to enjoy our own property alone.
Your beloved husband died and left you a paid-off apartment or house? Move out to a tiny studio or take in roommates, how dare you want to enjoy the place you lived in and paid off together for 30 years alone!
You own your own apartment, your partner was living with you but now you broke up and he moves out? Get ready to lose your apartment or take in roommates! How dare you want any privacy in your own home!
Do you ever want to live in a house with multiple rooms or a garden? Better get married and have 5 kids or you won't be allowed to occupy that much space!
I’m super dangerous. Not too long after I left them, no fewer than 2 exes suffered life threatening accidents and spent serious time in hospital.
