I'd argue they are "trans" in terms of gender, not sex. No one can change their sex.
But yeah it's frustrating. Trans people don't need to be inserting themselves in the issues of like 99.99% of people. And they always do it in women's issues, seems like.

I'm no centrist, and I'm definitely not right wing, but I've seen this strain of supposedly leftist men (and some leftist women cheerleaders) doing this shit that looks strangely like the same shit that these right-wing nuts do. And it's all in service to men. Liberal men advocated for porn normalization for their own benefit, for example.
Look up horseshoe theory. At the ends of the horseshoe shape, the extreme right and extreme left meet close together. Every day I live I think this is more and more plausible.

Is this because of the character of Jo being like a self-insert character? Why would a woman who has varying interests (including those traditionally thought of as "masculine") have to be trans to have them? Can't a woman simply be herself, feminine, and like what she likes? It seems like every time a woman had a "tomboyish" personality she had to be a lesbian, and now they've gone to asserting that women like this have to be trans. I'm tired, girls. Women - hetero or homosexual - deserve to have their interests and thoughts as they are.
I say this as a woman who grew up very much a girl, but had a younger brother and loved playing with "boy" and "girl" toys, loved to play outside, loved animals, plants, space, and whatnot. I did not care for babydolls and that sort of thing, although I did have a dollhouse that I thought was neat and I did have Barbies. But I also loved Power Rangers, played with my brother's dinosaurs and cars, and just refused to be boxed in. I feel the same way now. And if I ever have a child I refuse to box them in, either. But I also won't push on them the idea that they must be trans in order to fit a box.
It's hard because I don't want to be TERFy, or exclude trans people from the conversations about gender and sex. But they absolutely take over any and all women's issues in every conversation and it's usually trans women who do it - i.e. biologically male, often were raised as such. We aren't the same. We have very different lived experiences. And that needs to be said.
But if you say that biological males are not woman and do not have the same experiences , like you’re saying here, they will call you a terf, as well as other horrible names. They will try and get you fired from your job, alienate you from your friends and all that. So I think you have to realize these people are MRA’s and they hate women. No matter what you say you are a terf to them. it Doesn’t make a difference if you preface a criticism with “I don’t want to be TERFy” and then say something reasonable. You might as well stand up for woman’s rights and just embrace it. You’ll be called it no matter what you do.

What is a cis woman? A woman? The minute women acquiesced to being othered in our own category we lost. To say “cis woman” is to imply there is another category of women. There isn’t. A cis woman is simply a woman. Any other trans definition of a woman is male.

The other day I was listening to Little Women (Free on Audible!) and in one of the opening scenes, Jo complained about how she wanted to be a boy, join the army, and win the war. YOU KNOW DO MANLY THINGS!1!1!
I couldn't stop laughing I was like okaaaay Jo in your dreams lol 🥴! Then I started thinking about how some loser is going to misinterpret the scene...and claim Jo was gender-bending LMFAO. I was like NAH that would never happen no one could be that stupid lol.
But then I woke up to this!?!?! They're trying it! I'm in shock!
A lot of us felt like Jo! I found her the most relatable. It's detestable how all of this is being misconstrued as if women can't have had these thoughts and as if these thoughts weren't a consequence of the patriarchy that so often limits our imagination, opportunities and abilities.
As a girl when I read this my first thought was that she wanted to be free from the rigid gender role constrains of womanhood that society put her in. It had less to do with the war, and more to do with feeling utterly powerless in her life. As an adult, when I re-read the book, this was still my interpretation.
Also imagine reading this and being like "yeah! manly stuff! like murdering and destruction!!". It's like a self-aware wolf.
