I can't recommend this enough, this applies to men you're just befriending as well.
"Typecasting"
I have an example that might help. I had a male "friend" who would make wild, out of touch accusations/assumptions about me that were clearly from a jealous, toxic place.
I get along with most people well and keep it cordial at work. I'll go to the occasional bday party, but that's about it. Few coworkers have my number and no heavy texting or hanging out. I told my jealous male "friend" about the bday party i went to(an entire year ago), and said "hi" to a coworker I saw, who said "hello" to me first.
So because I went to a party a whole ass year ago(showed up early, left early), and politely responded to someone who spoke to me first(basic courtesy), he goes:
"You're like my brother, he says he's a loner and has social anxiety, but he parties and goes to concerts, bars and raves every weekend, and is always hooking up with women."
I just said "... Ookay?..."
Immediately regretted ever speaking to this guy. He was a brand new friend too.
So I'm a lying whore because I dared speak when spoken to, to another male. The audacity of me! It clearly triggered him, and it shouldn't have, for any sane man.
This episode is so good, thank you
"If he ignores your No, run."
