I did not think FDS was explicitly sympathetic towards any political party in the U.S., but I've picked up on some anti-libertarian sentiment from the forum in the past few months.
I understand the anti-Republican sentiment expressed on the forum, given the recent Roe v. Wade fiasco, and I also understand why many FDSers skew Democratic.
Question:
Can someone explain why libertarian men seem to be considered LVM by so many FDSers?
Libertarians can skew right or left, so I'm not sure why they're so reviled.
Someone somewhere put it best: they are Republicans who like to smoke weed.
From what I’ve observed in person, Libertarians have a “live and let live” attitude when it’s something that concerns other people (“Your family is stuck in generational poverty with no way out? I won’t do anything to make it worse, but I’ll be damned if I’ll pay taxes or use any of my own privilege to help you.” and “I miss the old days, when we could be openly sexist and racist.”), until it’s something that affects them personally (“They’re forgiving student loans?! If I had to pay mine off, they should too!” and “#NotAllMen! You’re being misandrist! I’m gonna have you banned from Twitter!”). I also see a high overlap between sociopathic men and libertarian men, but there are a lot of sociopathic men, so that could be a coincidence. Most of the ones I’ve met are former Republicans, and some have admitted that it took them a while to let go of that mindset, so I understand that they could just be in different places on their journey away from political indoctrination (I listen to the Dangerous History podcast, and agree with a lot of the points the host makes, but I’ve noticed that even though he is constantly touting the benefits of listening to points of view you may not agree with, all of the guests he’s ever had on his show have been white, male, and formerly Republican turned Libertarian (like him). I soured on Libertarians when Roe v Wade was overturned, and every male Libertarian on twitter was rejoicing and going on and on about how this is a good thing because “states’ rights”. However, when a religious conservative tweeted “what we need next is a nation-wide abortion ban 😊”, I noticed it was only a few female Libertarians speaking up about how it should be up to each state to decide. The males were completely silent. Which makes me wonder if they would be so defensive over StAtEs’ RiGhTs if the US imposed a national ban on abortion. They also don’t seem to have a problem with states refusing to let women cross the border to receive abortions, miscarriage/ectopic pregnancy care, and cancer treatment (in the case of pregnant women).
This is only my own experience talking, but the libertarian men I’ve met are very blasé. Like the “live and let live” mindset gets extended to the oppressors. For instance, they’re pro choice but do nothing to improve women’s lives. It’s like the hands off mindset becomes their reason for never even trying to make the world any better.
Because libertarians are neoliberals and deny the impact & existence of systems of power and privilege and the white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy. This fundamentally goes against radical feminism and liberation work.
There's a wider range of political views here than you might think. Some of us just don't talk about it because it's not relevant to the subject of this forum. I'm not remotely left-leaning and just skip over the political posts with which I disagree. You don't have to be a liberal, Democrat, or pro-big government to embrace FDS principles.
I don't know anything about this, we are not all from the US.
Maybe because the majority in North America are right libertarians who tend to be racist white men conspiracy theorist, anti vax, anti mask, gun rights activist preppers who aren’t safe to be around women and children? They are the epitome of toxic masculinity. Libertarians were among the men who stormed the US capitol on Jan. 6 and the men who held the Canadian capitol hostage for weeks in mimicry. They should be on the dating black list like military men and cops (because a lot of them are military men and cops).
Left libertarians are less terrifying and less common, but I’ve found most who uphold some of the ideals don’t self identify as libertarian due to the bad associations from right libertarians. There’s also a danger of them being the performative “I’m a feminist man who also supports gay rights” unemployed hobosexuals.
Glad OP is banned.
So you can watch this clip:
And tell me that FDS should consider any of these men HVM.
Why is OP banned?
Can you define what libertarian political views are? I'm not American.
Libertarians lack empathy and do not understand the concept of equity.
I live in a social democratic country turning more and more libertarian and I hate it.
We are never stronger than our weakest link.
Idk about libertarians but when I defended Christianity on my first reddit account with FDS I was heavily downvoted to "punish" me and essentially ran off the sub. That kind of bullying from FDS of all places seriously turned me off of the community for a few months, it rattled me so much. Though I greatly missed the discussions and advice and how man-free it was so I came back. There can definitely be a bit of an echo chamber with ideologies here and it's super weird to chase out pious women while preaching about sisterhood. We are not your enemy.
