I wanted to ask this same question recently! I'm a musician so there's a whole lot of sexism in the field to the point where I won't date another musician myself (men get too jealous and competetive with me being better than them in a male-dominated industry), but it's still important to me that there is compatibility in music tastes. In general, I find any man who exclusively listens to rap/trap music is a no-go. Same for most modern-day country music which I find to be very simple-minded and trashy. It's fine to enjoy certain songs just because they're catchy, etc. so it's not like I'll block and delete if they have a few random songs like that on their playlist. But, if their whole music library is questionable, that's a pass. Also, if they seem to only listen to female musicians, I'd label them as pornsick. Someone posted on here asking about men who are big fans of taylor swift recently, and I'd classify those men as pornsick as well. I recently blocked a man who only listened to super obscure artists (mostly female) because it gave me the ick. I think it's because it gave off some sort of pretentious "I only listen to artists you haven't heard of" vibe. Plus the fact they were mostly women striked me as another pornsick red flag. I also know a few men who legit don't listen to music AT ALL which I find disturbing. These are old acquaintances from high school or coworkers who spend all their time playing video games or watching anime and literally have no interest listening to music outside of what is playing in said video games or animes. Red flag. I guess to sum things up, I prefer men who listen to a wide variety of music like I do. Their favorite artists are MALES who I perceive as having good lyrics (not misogynistic or LV). If a man's favorite artist is a female musician, I'm going to assume it's just because she's attractive and he's pornsick for her. (But he also has to be my biggest fan once he hears my music 😉) Don't care if that's a double-standard 🤷🏼♀
Of coure. What a scrote. I hope you slipped in some subliminal messages about this season's hottest nail trends, overthrowing the patriarchy, female supremacy, etc. Ya know, just female issues.
Totally. This makes me think of this female solo artist who's locally famous back in my home state. My brothers are obsessed with her, like OBSESSED, which is really weird because her music sounds nothing like any of the other music they listen to. What's also weird is that her fans are like 98% male. I think her stuff is pretty boring, personally. But shes pretty and she sings in a high, breathy sort of voice. I really think the local dudes are just *excited* to have a somewhat accessible pretty singer lady to perv over. Related: my bros arent HV.
Ugh gross. It reminds me of Susan Boyle and how she basically became so famous because she was an amazing vocalist, but... was ugly??? So misogynistic. Why does a woman's ability to be successful in the music industry have to depend on whether or not she's attractive? I even had a pickme roommate back in college who would only listen to boy bands she found attractive. I could try introducing her to similar sounding bands, but if she didn't think they were cute, or if they had female members, she wouldn't listen to them 🙄 Some people listen to music with their eyes I guess.
That Eminem creature made a track where he kills his ex wife, and with Dido she agreed to be his abused pregnant wife having her in the truck of his car. What was she thinking? He also joked about raping another female artist. He might seem like a changed man now but I don't care, I have a right to judge ppl on their past. Once an abuser always an abuser.
I feel my partner has a "healthy" taste in music (meaning, no red flags that I know of). He plays the piano so he's always interested in piano music, modern and classical, but without getting pretentious about it. We both like rock and metal, but the melodic / epic kind and not the "this is noise, not music" kind or the "we're trying way too hard to be evil and depressed" kind. He dislikes bands with highly problematic members. He likes both male and female musicians without explicitly preferring one over the other. He is open to many genres of music and can groove along to simpler songs without sticking his nose up at them, while at the same time avoiding trashy stuff and crass lyrics. He likes older music from 70s to 90s like me without getting all intense about it à la "music was better back then!!!". When we listen to music together, it's often lofi or chill electronica (apart from metal). Whatever I show him, he is usually able to get into and often even comes back to me with additional stuff that he found in the same style / from the same artist, so it really feels like we have an ongoing set of "our music".

When you find out, please tell everyone so we can all have an HVM.
If he listen to songs where women are insulted and berated then It's a sign that he's been lying about how he feels. Never believe what a man says, believe his actions.
Absolutely. Music is a massive part of social conditioning and influences behaviour and thought patterns in both men and women.
At this point in my life, being a 'die-hard' fan of any genre of music is a red flag to me. Whether it's rock, metal, hiphop, house, edm, trap or whatever. This form of idolatry often takes the place of real personal development beyond a teenage mentality and the degree to which all of these genres of music influences lifestyle choices cannot be overstated.
I like metal and dubstep but men who like metal always enjoy the crappy stuff (lyrics hardly intelligible or just misogynistic rob zombie crap.)
I enjoy Polaris because it actually has structure and music theory in it.
Rap is always a 🚩 there are literal case studies on it increasing misogynistic and materialistic attitudes.
Dubstep can be a 🚩 depending on the context, I've literally never met a decent scrote who enjoys it except for the druggies who got sick of rap. Met plenty of decent women who enjoy it though.
Country is an absolute 🚩 it's like softly presenting the status quo to you in a victim mindset from males.
Classic rock is kinda a 🚩? I can't tell though, they always present themselves as victims of a woman's actions and then within the same breath sing about killing her? It's annoying white male trash that I hear at every store I go to.
Music in general is dominated by males, I'll be in a whole foods or a Marshalls and instantly there's a hip hop song about sex and owing a man attention, it's gross.
I just end up listening to electronic music and metal 🤷 again being picky with the metal and aiming for Thornhill or Polaris
If the music is overtly sexist and or violent and he gravitates toward sexist themes in his choices, then yes it could be a clue. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend much time evaluating the music unless you notice a pattern.
I listen to metal music, and I find that metal heads are awwwwwwful. If you find a good looking one, there's a 90% chance he's a F%!@ boy LVM, or a raging misogynist. If you find one who has a terrific personality and could potentially be HV, he's ugly. I don't waste a second on trying to meet guys at shows anymore, that's for sure.
Another thing is that I swear most metal guys are low-key gay 😂 For years, metalhead men have been accusing women of "only going to shows for the hot guys." Meanwhile, there is not a single hot guy in the room.
Thank Gaia that women are busting into the scene and normalizing women in metal. It's getting more progressive and less like a boys club.
music that objectifies women - big red flag

I dont think you can really pinpoint a specific Genre as HV because taste is very subjective.

I've dated enough men to know this.

If they like country music they are probably conservative
Juiceworld. His music fucking sucks and it's the most whiney, chronically-on-twitter shit I've ever heard. Glad he's dead.
