I can’t say what a HVM will listen to, but I think he would be uncomfortable listening to any music that objectifies/degrades women. And YES it is a red flag. I had a nvx who specifically said, “I don’t like any female singers. I just don’t like the sound of their voice.” He turned out to be a sexist and abusive POS. There are SO MANY female singers out there; some thing is definitely wrong if a man can’t enjoy even one.
I've been told by the HVM members of my circle that men who don't enjoy women's voices period are the worst of the worst. The ones so steeped in misogyny and cruelty there is no hope for them. I've never seen that proven wrong. In fact, the best relationship I've ever had he referred to my voice as 'musical' (likely because of my distinctive accent) and would always play songs he knew I loved because it meant I would probably sing along, and he loved to hear me sing.
I’d say music that overlaps my tastes but also we can show each other stuff we never heard before. and second the ”hot singer” thing.
the worst men I’ve met tend to be “music snobs” if that makes sense or are stuck in only one genre. The biggest music snob I knew would make fun of me if I liked any pop or anything “mainstream”. He liked to think he was special and would go out of his way to dislike anything the radio would play.
i think hvm can have a variety of music taste but it’s also important that he is open to things he has not heard before and doesn’t write off entire genres and likes at least some women musicians for their talents.
I’d like a guy to have quirky taste that compliments my own. I feel like his taste should definitely include female musicians, so long as he likes their abilities and isn’t just into them because he finds them attractive. It’s so gross how many men will say they like an actress or female musician, then when asked what they like about her, the first thing they say is how beautiful/hot/cute she is🤮
By the FDS definition, a HVM is simply someone that would be HV to you specifically. If you'd like them to have music tastes similar to yours, then that's what they listen to.Then again, I do personally feel that men that consistently listen to songs that specifically degrade women (in any style — even certain rock and pop songs are very questionable) are exhibiting LV traits. But then again, that's just not HV to me.
I personally would not consider it a red flag if a guy only listens to male artists/singers. I'm really in to electronic music/IDM/vaporwave/synthwave and I think I've found literally 2 female artists in those genres. It sucks, I would absolutely listen to more but they just don't seem to exist, or at least don't openly display that they are female. :(As others have said, stay far far away from the music snobs. They will go out of your way to bring you down just to make themselves feel better while contributing nothing to art or music themselves.

When you find the answer, just know that women will pay so much to have that knowledge. Maybe write a self help book about it so you can make millions.
What you find profound or touches your Soul someone else find inacessible and vise versa. I would find it sad if somebody doesnt listen to music at all or only the top 100 radio trash and nothing more.
Id find it more of a red flag If the guy is really pretentious and belittles your taste in music.
I also listen to 80% male singers to be honest.
I dont think High Value people Listen to specific types of music.
differences in music choices don't bother me much. what will bother me if they say things like "ew you listen to [insert female singer here]?" and/or show an intense aversion to a particular genre.
Red flag on the all male singers for me. I dated a music snob (he fumed because I knew more music than him) who only listened to male singers because "women don't have the same talent/soul". He was a full clown. I showed him artist like Nina Simone and Fiona Apple and he actually got pissed because he couldn't argue that these "females" had real talent. This guy actually identified as a feminist. He was the most misogynistic, competitive, needledick I've ever met.

A good test is does he like music by ugly women or just hot ones?
There's no one genre that predicts high value, but attitude towards music in general can be a vetting criterion. Like others said, misogynistic music is a red flag, as is listening to male musicians only. One thing I like about my boyfriend is that he is open minded towards any kind of music (except the truly cringeworthy stuff of course), and these days you'll find us loudly singing along to K-Pop in the car, lol. I've never listened to that kind of stuff before but we got exposed to it and were able to bond over it. For me, a "HV music taste" also includes being able to state what he likes about X genre / song specfically, not just because "it sounds nice" or he went along with what everyone else is listening to. It shows whether he has observational and critical thinking skills and a sense for art/beauty. On the other hand, beware music snobs, as others have already pointed out.
