It's a prime example of rape culture and how society forgives men for their crimes against women, so long as he behaves like a # girldad. Which is the bare fucking minimum. Being protective and kind to kids. It shows how many psychopathic men probably idolize Negan. I hate this trend of "redemption arcs" on rapists in film and tv. Negan kills a rapist on the show (as he should), yet he won't kill himself despite breaking the same ethics he says he has. He's a hypocrite and a narcissist.
I also hate him because he brutally killed off my favorite character, Glenn (a genuinely nice and intelligent man) - in front of his pregnant wife, Maggie. It's been 4 seasons since then and I still don't forgive him, lmao. Fans were mad at Maggie for wanting to kill him when he started to become less of a villain on the show. They tried to call her crazy and unreasonable. Even though she had to give birth and raise her child without her husband because of this piece of shit.
They tried to give him a sob story about his background in later seasons too. But I don't feel that sorry for him still? He cheated on his wife who had cancer. I don't understand why people love him so much?
Commenters on YouTube under a video that shows Negan being nice to two children in the show.
Versus reasonable women and some men on the walking dead subreddit calling this bs out.
Rest In Peace to my fav and most upstanding guy in the show.
I'm sorry that fans seem to have either forgotten about Glenn or just don't give a shit what Negan did to him and Maggie any more. I'm also sorry I have to see so many rape apologists commenting under my favorite show. I've been hesitating to finish TWD after Glenn passed away and I think this confirms I had good reason to. I don't think it would benefit my mental health to continue a show if I know there's a rapist redemption arc and the woman whose husband was killed is shamed for being justifiably emotional.
Even the beginning of the Walking Dead had some weird underlying misogyny in my opinion. The main character Rick and Shane's convo in episode 1 was hella weird and out of place. "What's the difference between men and women?" Rick goes on to say he would never be as cruel to Lori as she is to him.
Because before he went to work that day, she said, "sometimes. I wonder if you even care about us any more." in front of their son. Well now that I'm older and rewatching, I have to wonder why Lori felt that way. I also think it's complete utter bs to attribute that to a male vs. female issue. I know so many more cruel men than I do women.
If any other FDS user has seen the show, I hope you feel my frustration and disappointment in this fandom.
Shitty men are always forgiven, Because even Men tell other men that not all men are bad, Imagine if it was a female villain who allow boys to get raped under her rule. Then all of them would be like " If the roles were reversed! what about men! boo hoo" Nobody would try to see good in a female villain.
If you want to know what the men would do in an apocalyptic situation, read about The Batavia or the sinking of the SS Artic. The Batavia was a ship that ran aground on some atolls northeast of Australia on their way to Java. The surviving women were all put into a tent and forced to service the men of the camp. Then the men started killing everyone on the island and waging war between three small atolls in their vicinity. In the SS Arctic, the ship ran into another ship and started sinking. The captain was doing his best to keep the vessel afloat, to help the ship they hit, and to manage the lifeboats. But the men of the crew and even passengers started stealing from the women, raping them, and prevented the women and children from getting on the lifeboats. On their last moments on earth, they chose to rape and loot women and children. This is the reality of the dark recesses in many a man's mind. Might makes right in their minds, and that's why they look down upon women and children with such disdain.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is strange as fuck to deny his character is a rapist too, lmao
"Everybody makes mistakes."
"He had to adjust to the apocalyptic world."
Yeah, we saw Glenn make mistakes and adjust WITHOUT raping women :).
I used to watch Walking Dead with a large group. Most of us quit the show at the episode where Negan killed Glenn. One guy is still like "the show is still good, Negan is a great character" and the response from the rest of us is like "okay 🙄"
Sounds like it's a good thing I quit. Negan is still on the show all these years later? That would frustrate me so much if I still watch. I would have been fruitlessly rooting for him to die a horrible death this whole time. 😆
I swear I just watched that scene where the guy kills Glenn in front of Maggie today! What a coincidence that you're talking about it. Yeah this is bullshit and double standards, that pos deserve to die in all honesty.
I stopped watching The Walking Dead when they killed Shane. He was the only real man on the show who knew what to do and wasn't gonna cry about everything like Rick. I knew it was gonna go to sh1t after that. If Rick cried one more time about shooting the already dead zombies, I was gonna kill him myself. 🤣
