"However variously we define its goals, principles or methods, feminism is a political project: simply existing as a famous or powerful woman does not, in and of itself, make someone a feminist. We should be able to admire the achievements of non-feminist women without needing to co-opt them into a movement they never wanted to join, and we should be able to criticize the ideas or actions of feminist women, past and present, without needing to deny that they were ever feminists."
(from a blog I thought some of you might like)
Annoying have people labeled her a feminist even though she stayed with a cheating husband (it would have been such a boss move if she had dumped his ass, women around the world would be filled with so much determination to divorce their asshat husbands) and helped out Andrew.
I respected her for the good she managed to do over the course of her life but she’ll never not be Queen Pick-Me. She enjoyed, enabled, abetted and aided in an institution that serves no real purpose in the modern world but to prolong an incestuous family’s Ill-begotten riches and position of psychological power over people. That same institution is a hot bed of racism and sexism.
I think it’s definitely important to note women’s achievements while also having a healthy criticism for their actions as well. Queen Elizabeth had good and bad moments. I personally stand with the cheering of her oppressed who are happy she’s passed. She did a LOT of harm and was very racist. No one is above rightfully owed criticism. She definitely wasn’t a feminist, either. A woman having a position of power doesn’t mean she’s using that power to advocate for women’s rights and freedoms.
