I have been playing it safe and saving money since the beginning of the pandemic. I'm 25 and I all of a sudden have this urge to be somewhere exciting and live life while earning money. I also definitely have FOMO and guilt for not having done this when I graduated.
Does anyone have experiencing moving to NY from abroad? Can I just send in my CV to a bunch of companies over there, even if I don't have relevant experience yet? I'm just itching to be in a whole new place and experience a lot more.
If you ever want to get married, do not move to NYC, DC, or LA. I’ve worked in all 3, and there are way more single women than men there, and the men know it. They treat women like total trash. If you’re lesbian, those cities would be great, but if you’re looking for a decent man, it’s nearly impossible there. Just fair warning. Had I known, I wouldn’t have spent from age 30 to 46 in those cities being dogged out by men. Even the impotent men are players in those cities. The short, fat, and bald also think they’re Gods gift to women. Find a job first, and depending upon what you want in life, then see if you’d want to live in any of these cities. Check out the ratio of single men to women and also how many gay men there are, because cities like Atlanta and Austin are full of homosexual males who will see a good girl with a STEM degree as a meal ticket. I have a STEM degree, too—Chemistry and Nuclear Engineering.
It’s a lot easier to take a risk and make a big move when you’re younger (20s) than when you’ve gotten a bit older (30s) and established roots a bit more. I’m not from the US so I don’t know about NY, but I can say that there’s no harm in applying for a bunch of jobs. Worst that can happen is that you don’t get the job after applying. Just don’t move until you have a job offer confirmed.
Not a good idea to move anywhere without relevant work experience.
I don’t work in speech pathology, but it is a good idea to double check if your bachelor’s degree is internationally accredited in your desired field. If so, the degree will transfer over political borders without much trouble and you will need to take fewer course credits to be acknowledged as accomplished as your contemporaries.
