A guy told me he had a vasectomy (and didn't freeze any sperm). I asked what about if he one day wants to have children and he said that he would rather use a sperm donor because his genetics had given him a hard life.
I'm intrigued because on the one hand that would mean his future wife could potentially get children from high quality genetics without having to chase such a popular man.
But on the other hand it seems off, possibly like it might be just a phase then one day he'll change his mind and claim it's not even his children
Either he lied to you about vasectomy or he doesn't want kids at all
I think it's a pretty mature and responsible decision not to have biological children if there is a severe congenital disease or disability in your family that you could pass on. Getting a vasectomy is just a logical step to make sure it doesn't happen. I wish more people did it. We could eradicate so many illnesses in just one generation if people just stopped being selfish and thinking it is their right to have biological children no matter what. I understand wanting children. But there are other options than passing on a risk like that to all your future descendants (egg/sperm donation, fostering and adopting etc.).
So if that's the reason: kudos to him.
I think it’s a slippery slope, a lot of times men just say stuff to make themselves look very radical. Also, it’s easier said than done, all the effort and money might seem like a hassle in the long run for him. Besides, you don’t know if it’s true until he does it.
I don't believe what men say unless I have enough proof
People who want to use sperm donors should watch the docuseries "The Man with 1000 Kids"! It seriously blew my mind that there's basically no enforcement to make sure one man can't go around a bunch of different places donating so much sperm that the resulting children will have to be careful not to accidentally, um, procreate with their own half-siblings.
That's a problem that never even crossed my mind before that docuseries.
The guy who did that likely have some type of mental disorder. And he spread it to 1000 kids.
So, okay, this vasectomy guy is better than that sperm donor guy who is so full of hubris he thinks he should keep spreading his genetic material as much as he can.
But it's a very low bar, to be better than that sperm donor 😆
He might be at risk for certain diseases and may not want to pass that onto a child.
