Hi everyone!
So I was having a conversation the other day with someone, and I began to talk to talk about the perils of porn, and he kept asking me for statistical facts to support my argument. I proffered some, but all the stats did not readily come to mind, although I was able to buttress my points.
So that led me to wonder if there's anywhere on FDS where there's a dossier of concise facts and information on porn and it's effects on young and adult men, and the correlation between that and current pop culture trends. It would also be great if anyone to direct me to a similar dossier of facts on abuse against women especially in intimate settings. We all know these things anecdotally and statistics are often mentioned in posts etc but I'd like to to have these handy and commit them to memory.
I'd really love any recommendations whether papers, essays etc. happy to curate the dossier myself and share. Ideally just a 1-2pager of hard truths.
PS: everyone telling me not to argue with (bad faith) men is preaching to the choir. I have expressed this sentiment in variable ways myself, here. That being said, there will be FDS members in the academic adhere and other walks of life, who would appreciate readily and easily obtainable hard facts, as in statistical and empirical based truths, to buttress their opinions. A lot of women also don't understand how porn is public harm. The average liberal leaning woman likely believes if porn is harmful at all it is merely harm to self.
And proffering facts about how steeped in misogyny is into every facet of life, and facts that show the burden women bear on a global level is useful too. If nothing else, it's cathartic.
It would be helpful to have on hand, but I would caution you against arguing with men about pornography, or any other feminist topic. 99% of the time it's not worth your energy - they'll find ways to gaslight you and invalidate any arguments or statistics you have and keep pushing you until you get flustered or tired and then they've "won" by sheer force.
In fact, even asking for statistics for such an obvious phenomenon of porn being bad for men/women/relationships, in my opinion, is an indication he just doesn't want to deal with reality and/or is an addict himself ready to defend this horrid institution. People with healthy sexuality and those who respect women intuitively understand how offensive and dangerous porn can be - we don't really need to demand statistics to believe it.
However, it's your call to make since I don't personally know the guy, and how sincere or insincere he may be.
Gail Dines has a collection of statistics with linked research papers: https://www.gaildines.com/the-porn-crisis/
I just want to note: 1. We do not argue with rapist or rapist sympathizers, and by defending porn, which is paid rape- they are a rapist sympathizer. 2. Notice how of you were to look up "the negative effects of porn" all you'll see is how it harms men and not the women being raped on tape 🤡

Fourth wave women subreddit has tons of good posts about this with the research linked! Also the anti porn subreddit
