I apologize if this is not allowed on the forum, but I’m genuinely curious. I feel like liberal feminists hate her with so much conviction for having the opinions she has. I definitely think Harry Potter as a series could have been more diverse, but I don’t know about her enough to have a clear opinion of her as a person. I have heard about how she escaped an abusive marriage/relationship and found her struggle to success as a single mother quite inspiring though.

I think she's a brilliant businesswoman, though I can't speak to her writing skills as I've never read the books. However, millions and millions of people did and loved them, and even more flocked to see the movies based on them, so I assume they are well-written and interesting.
My understanding of why she is hated by leftists and lib-fems is because she refuses to pretend that a mentally ill man in a woman costume who calls himself a woman is actually female. She wants women's spaces to be reserved for women only, and not pornsick autogynephiles who have turned womanhood into a sexual fetish to indulge their "euphoria" (erections). That's all I know about it though.
It's not transphobic to advocate for saying "women" instead of "people who menstruate" and arguing that biological sex is not a construct and has actual consequences and an impact on how someone experiences life and I don't understand the witch hunt for her. I enjoyed her books and they were very important and precious to me as a teenager. I actually admire her more for saying things like this out loud and not letting herself be silenced despite the constant criticism.
I've never read her books, but I have absolute love and respect for the woman for standing up for women's sex-based rights and protections. Since she has fuck-you money, the unhinged TRAs can't silence her, and she is the hero we need right now.
Misogyny. Plain and simple. She is talented, self-made successful woman; a Mother, a Survivor. People who abuse her haven't even read her Open Letter. It is the age-old Mob-Hysteria, burning "The Witch". She is a Real Activist for Women and Girls. A Real Feminist.
To hear some people tell it, you'd think Rowling goes around kicking puppies and is the most hateful person ever.
But no, all she did is write a pretty thoughtful and reasonable essay that has no problem with people not conforming to gender roles. She just committed the big faux-pas of pointing out if people can officially self-identify into any gender, men are going to use that to invade women's spaces.
People freak out like "oh no, she's saying transgender people are all sexual predators!" That's literally not what she said.
Rowling is getting in the way of something certain men want, and people paint it as "transphobia". Kind of like when women get in the way of the sex industry, that gets called "whorephobia" or "sex negativity".
Always trying to redirect everyone's attention away from the actual problem - men being given opportunities to harm women.
"Oh no, this is not being done for men, pay no attention to the abusive men behind the curtain! This is all being done for the most stigmatized people who were ever stigmatized!"
She isn’t even transphobic, she’s just pro-women and pro-lesbian and that enraged TRAs for absolutely no reason. It’s incredibly weird to watch. A bunch of TRAs literally had mental breakdowns when she (drum roll please) went to a luncheon! The trans rights movement is losing steam because none of it makes sense and a lot more people are peaking bc of it.
When all the controversy came up I went back and read her original tweet. All she did was show support for another woman who had valid questions about how to handle trans women in women's shelters. They were all valid points and the counter argument was basically how dare she question because trans women are women. I can see points to both arguments but ultimately what she said was not that bad or offensive imo. I don't understand why she's being raked over the coals unless it specifically has to do with her building a lucrative empire as a woman. A woman can't be a billionaire without being picked apart.
It's absolutely wild to me, how woke "feminists" are bending over backwards and doing cartwheels in attempt to condemn her, but are silent when she is subjected to threats of male violence from twitter degenerate furry scrotes. Sorry, scrotessas, i guess.
TRA really hijacked our oppression and weaponized it against us. They're trying to gaslight and silence a woman who expressed valid(!) concern about the state of things.
I'm happy that she has actual power and unwilling to bow down to these losers and that she continues to laugh at them everyday, while they REEEE and screech in her comments. Die mad, lol.
Some of her writing can be problematic (her female leads she loves are very much "not like other girls", and she demonizes women who are feminine or romantic, to name an example) but as an activist she's great. She doesn't coddle TRAs or indulge their delusions and still manages to be supremely polite and cool-headed.
Sheep gain power from being part of a herd
Some people choose an idea because it's popular not because they actually believe in it ....
questioning it means they now have to do the same.
ain't nobody got the brain power for that!
I read her essay on the topic. I doubt any of her haters read it, that's why they keep hating her. She was way ahead her time. When she mentioned that Dumbledore was gay, I was maybe 12? That was 18 years ago, and trust, people used to be way more homophobic back then. Such an unfair treatment, but I'm glad she's strong enough to not take her words back. Unlike some male coward writers I'm not gonna name.
If there's anything a public figure should learn is that Twitter only serves as trouble. No one really needs to know all the thoughts in your head.
I watched her get roasted but never understood why. So I read her essay/tweets and didnt see what was so wrong. Up until then, I thought "transwomen are women" was a metaphor. Its not until I dove in that I discovered people were being literal and really, truly think thats physical reality. Its really sad that a medical mental condition became a quasi-religion. Not gay, but even as a straight person, this quasi-religion is throwing gay peoppe under the bus. I cant understand why a condition because so mystified. No way gay or transpeople will have a good time when the mystic woowoo wears off.
It's a witch hunt. She escaped abusive marriage. Single mum. Successful woman. And is pro-women.
It is the same thing that's happening in YouTube beauty community - a man transitioning to woman (or just slap some makeup on his face and calling himself a "guru") and yet can't left his male ego at the door - and start drama and bullying everybody who dares not agreeing with him.
JK doesn't agree with some of these people's ideas, so she got attacked. Funny how we never face this kind of loud screeching from a woman transitioning to man.
Just show that men are the true drama queen.
JK Rowling is awesome and Harry Potter is diverse.
I'm not a superfan of hers or anything but as far as I've seen she's never said anything transphobic, and the fact that TRAs have argued it's "covert transphobia" whenever I've asked them to point out the so-called hate speech only confirms it imo.
I think TRAs just attack women who don't agree with 110% affirmation at all times because we live in a misogynistic society that has no issue with us being attacked for not bending to everyone else's will, so we're easy targets. If these people really gave a crap about transmen and transwomen's safety they'd be going all Gulabi Gang on the men that commit crimes against them (more often than not johns), not attacking women who want guarantees that their single-sex spaces (public bathrooms, changing rooms, prisons, hospital wards, etc) aren't going to be accessible to every male that identifies - or simply says he does - as a woman.
Sorry you’re getting downvoted. I actually like JK but I respect your opinion. Doesn’t make sense to downvote someone on a post that’s literally asking people to express their thoughts. We all don’t have to be in agreement.
I think she's a mixed bag. She has done many things that I admire, and she has done several things that are disappointing. I think she's receiving a disproportionate amount of hate from fans who feel betrayed by some of her opinions. She has responded to fans with compassion in the past, so I think some feel entitled to her compassion and are bitter when she's not forthcoming. There are also people who hate all successful women and may well be fanning the flames against her.
As for her anti-trans comments, I hope that she will learn and grow as a person, but I don't think learning will happen through people bullying/harassing her. That treatment puts people into a heightened emotional state which reduces their ability to engage rationally. Natalie Wynn has a long video that I think is really well done analysis. https://youtu.be/7gDKbT_l2us
I applaud her for all her personal victories and accomplishments because yes, she has had it hard. But personally I cannot get behind some of her beliefs about who is a woman and who isn't a woman.
