What is everyone's thoughts on International Women's Day?
Personally I feel this so called day to be so patronising!
I see so many posts this week from large corporations applauding the women in their teams with their photos of smiling faces and knowing in the background the men at those companies are out earning these women because of an appendage between their legs.
Let's all just ignore the fact that the gender pay gap exists, women die on a daily basis at the hands of their partners, women are financially worse off after we have children and always end up with less in retirement because of this. They are often the main carer in their home with 100% responsibility for raising the children and taking care of the home. PLUS having a full time career.
But hey - let's give them a "day".
Thoughts?
I wish it was possible to go on a general, worldwide strike on "International Women's day" to show them a world without women's work, especially without our unpaid labor. Not a single woman goes to work or does any kind of work at home or in childcare for the whole day. Just lie or sit around all day doing absolutely nothing. Watch TV, read a good book, take a bath, do whatever you want, just not a single bit of work. As long as our rights and lifes are violated, nobody deserves to profit from our labor.
IWD shouldnt be a celebration, I guess. What your describe - companies highlighting smiley lady employees - is gross. Like, it's not our birthday. I dont need you to "celebrate" me or wish me a happy IWD.
IWD should be women making demands and exposing male atrocities for the betterment of womankind. But men take over the day with vapid "you go girl" nonsense to placate and distract us.
I want to embrace womanhood while it still can because if the trans have their way it will be international birthing person day. scientists even want to eliminate the word female and call us egg producers. Matriarchy needs to take over.
I’m happy to celebrate IWD. First I'm proud to be a woman. My organization created a women’s committee that I’m part of and we discuss how to remove the gender pay gap, help women through mentorship with other female leaders, work life balance, maternity leave, flexible benefits. We have monthly webinars to discuss all women issues in the workplace.
For this IWD women took it off to network and attend a women’s only career networking event to be surrounded by other women and network in the industry. Honestly, I’m seeing a lot of wonderful things happening during this discussions. I feel we can flip any thing to our advantage if done right and we can use this day to unite with other women to start discussions and be part of the change.
IWD is the day men search for IMD day. Classic. They only care when it comes to women celebrating themselves and shifting the focus from them for 10 seconds.
Fuck IWD.
Pay me, don’t empower me
give the land back to the grandmothers, mothers and daughters. we couldn’t care less about corporate airbrushed stock photos, which is the only expression of IWD i noticed today from the male sector.
other expressions included a young woman in my CrossFit class who wished us a happy one when she arrived at the gym, and a free women’s self defense class advertised by the local BJJ spot, which i am grateful for.
