""She’s baffled there is no safety net for families in her situation. The Ropers saved for college, they paid off their house, they*** tithed at church, and they paid thousands of dollars in taxes** for more than 70 years of combined work.""
Washington Post article:
Senior care is crushingly expensive. Boomers aren't ready:
https://www.seattletimes.com/business/senior-care-is-crushingly-expensive-boomers-arent-ready/
This article outlines how expensive long term care is for elderly individuals. Her husband developed dementia, and she is spending herself and her oldest daughter poor paying for his care!
The articles gives it away with their closing quote....that they tithed and paid taxes, which is exactly how republicans and conservatives phrase/frame their lives.
>"Privileged people are used to authorities being reasonable and accommodating. They vote against the rights of others thinking they will be able to negotiate an exception for themselves.”
Why should we give a flying fuck that this person couldn't negotiate an exception for themselves?
Boohoo that you paid taxes for 70 years. We all pay taxes and they go to republican wet dreams of military'dominance'....2.a. You Get What You Vote For
If it where the wife to have gotten sick, she would have been left to fend for herself and disappeared on a daily walk. #SilverAlert
tldr; Vote with the party that cares about long term healthcare.
Awwww poor boomers. Maybe they should have thought of the consequences when voting these politicians in and scewing over their kids future. Fuck them. They've made their bed, now they can lie in it. Who knows how long it will take to fix the mess they've made.
i know a guy, a white ex-cop, whose father is a raging alcoholic, probably racist, ex-Navy Seal, won't shower, basically doesn't get out of bed. somehow he had a girlfriend...she just stopped being able to put up with him (shocking, imagine that). i think he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
his son rescued him and now pays $6K A MONTH to keep him in elder care.
by the way, this guy has 3 young children with his wife, who works from home AND manages the household.
i know what i would do with $6K a month.
giant manbabies, draining women of energy. tale as old as time.
I don’t see anywhere in the article that the elderly middle class people in question are republican or conservative. Moreover, with the exception of a few wealthier communities, Seattle is a mostly democrat area (and no, not all boomers are republican—my dad’s a boomer and diehard democrat). In fact, unless I missed something, the article doesn’t really say anything at all about the voting habits of the people in question. Just that they paid into the social security system, expecting it to pay out when they got older (which is something prior generations were able to do with no problem). Really, the article is about diminishing social security funds, more than anything else. That ball started rolling with their parents’ generation when they had so many kids, and spent so much money on wars. Lack of social security has affected everyone, regardless of their political party. The article makes a reference to them tithing at their church, but that’s neither here nor there—they made charitable donations that they thought they would be able to afford, assuming that things would continue as they had for prior generations. They may have felt that money donated to their church would be well-spent, because their religious community would come to their aid if they fell on hard times, only to realize that the money likely went to funding their pastor’s new mansion instead.
This family needs to report this guy to adult protective services for self neglect. They need to explain that be CANNOT take care of himself and that they can’t afford to hep pay for him. I am also not sure if he has applied for disability or not, but he has to apply for disability. Having disability income will help and get him maybe $1000 or $1500 a month more or less and that will take a portion of the cost. Next, APS can try to help him figure something out, like a cheaper placement or a different kind of facility to live in. These are both processed that take forever and have no guarantees.
Nothing like a sweet karma tea ☕ in the morning.
Real funny. Maybe they should walk on up to Burger King and see about a part time hustle to bring some extra cash to the table to help themselves out.

Nowhere in this article did it say these people were conservative. You do realize your president, a Democrat, is a Christian, and tithes? You scanned this article looking for someone to blame and didn't find it, so you rested on the logical fallacy of hasty generalization.
FDS has repeatedly stated that they do not align with a particular party, but there are currently multiple posts smearing conservatives. Your loyalty to party is dogmatic.
You are a divider.
