What if she straight up said: "It was my husband's choice to run for president, not mine. I will accompany him to events when I want, but I won't feel obligated. And because I have no interest in politics, I will not be playing the traditional role of a first lady by choosing a cause to promote."
I floated this idea in my group of friends today, and was met with (in my opinion) quite a self-righteous rant by one particular female. "Marriage is a partnership!" (she says, having never been married, and knowing full well my ex-husband DID NOT respect our partnership, cheating on me and leaving me bankrupt). "If my husband did something so admirable as to run for president, I would be right there by his side, supporting him!"
Well, la-ti-dah.
I think it's a bunch of hooey.
bullshit all around. as usual women are expected to smile through the dumb shit scrotes put them through whether they agreed to it or not.
Did Trump's wife have a cause? I definitely got the 'uhh why am I here??' vibe from her.
When I was married to another Army officer, I had this same problem. The Commander's wife is supposed to lead the Family Readiness Group. Well, I was too busy being a platoon leader and jumping out of airplanes to run the FRG, and my husband was FURIOUS with me. I also didn't like hanging out with these women who were quite frankly all wearing their husband's rank around whilst I actually earned my rank by actually being in the Army. His Battalion Commander's wife pretended to not know who I was each time I met her despite me being the ONLY Army officer wife in the Battalion and the Alpha Company Commander's wife who wore a fucking name tag on my uniform! Lol. But my husband swore up and down that I "ruined his career" by not running the FRG. If a woman doesn't sacrifice herself for her husband, she is hated. But when I broke my neck and jaw, he didn't help me and neither did the FRG. Shouldn't the FRG help the disabled wife of a Commander? And that's why I didn't join them in the first place. I knew it was just a gossip, bitch session where women got together and talked shit about the girls they didn't like.
This was Melania Trump, in a nutshell. I don't have strong feelings about her in any way, but I like that she held her ground by not pretending to give a shit about her husband's presidency. The Be Best campaign was half-hearted at best, and everyone knew that.
Nah first ladies don't need to do anything they don't genuinely want to. If you fight and promote causes just because you have a platform, it becomes very fake and political. There is no proof that they personally prevent any corruption that goes internally during those campaigns, among the people who are actually handling things under the first lady's name. She might just be doing it for clout which is such a low value move.
Okay wow! This is kind of off-topic but I just finished the YouTube series by History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday, all about first ladies!
(6 part series with ~30 min. eps, be warned) A lot of first ladies actually didn't want to be in the spotlight! This whole channel & podcast should be promoted by FDS for her focus on (mostly European royal) womens' history! 😊
That would honestly be dope. I would feel bad for her though. Like, why did he run for president if he knew he would be dragging her into something she didnt want to do?
