The healthcare gender bias: do men get better medical treatment?A study this month found that women are less likely than men to be given CPR – but it is not the only way in which they are given short shrift in an industry where female pain is serially misdiagnosed
Yep. And sadly, in my personal experience, many female Drs internalise this misogyny, too. It's rare to be treated like a human by a Dr.
Of any gender.
This is statistically true. I work in healthcare and most studies are conducted on male sample sizes. Funding is put in the hands of men and funds male studies as a result. Illnesses manifest in men differently than women. There needs to be more women leading research that benefits women.
Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez has a chapter on this. It’s very depressing. Men are the default for the design of pretty much the whole world, including the entire medical system.
The maternal mortality rate is much higher for black women too which is terrifying.
