Have you come across posts about summer camps, proms or any other event where young girls are forced to follow very strict dress codes? The rules might include: no white t-shirts, no two-piece bathing suits, must wear shorts over bathing suit etc.
How infuriating is this? What exactly is so immodest about a CHILD in a bathing suit? And you just know the boys are allowed to run around shirtless all summer.
Here is a blog post, but I have seen much worse: https://exponentii.org/blog/oh-those-girls-camp-dress-codes/
As a European, I’m always baffled at America’s weird, double-standard approach to ‘adult’ themes as sexuality, modesty and violence.
I once saw an American video with a dancing group of girls that were roughly round 7 years old. They were dressed as strippers as they sensually and provocatively twirled and crawled on stage and the whole thing was, obviously, recorded for anyone on the internet to see. But the song was bleeped out to “Will IM and Britney, B**” because heaven forbid the precious innocent flower buds should hear or use inappropriate language.
It’s a country where any nudity in the presence of children is basically asking to be arrested for pedophilia, but exposing underage kids to the sight of people open-carrying murder weapons is fine. Where women’s sexuality is so controlled by men that young girls in bridal dresses, too young to know what sexual desire is, make weird purity vows they don’t even understand to their yeehaw daddies - who are, again, usually pictured carrying guns.
Where sexual education is in many states villified, resulting in many more teen pregnancies than in countries where sex ed is a normal part of the curriculum. And don’t even get me started on abortion.
I could go on. It’s so utterly weird. Especially considering how similar our cultures are, otherwise.
