I currently work as an independent contractor for an amazing company that I love it’s been 3 months. It’s part time which was awesome, however Now I’m looking do for some side gigs and bring more $$ in case lol. Today I got an email from my old mentor asking if i can help her out with my skills.
Now here’s the thing, I’m currently working for a well know company(but very small company) in the wellness industry (very niche so only well known to people in that specific industry lol). My mentor is in the exact same niche for who I’m working for. When I first told her I got the job, she said after I learn a couple things I could help her out and then asked me what programs and softwares the person I’m working for uses. I felt extremely uncomfortable that she even asked me that, and since I already signed an NDA, I let her know I can’t give out work info like that, but the fact she even asked…
So I know my mentor only wants my help because of who I’m now working for. I’d love the money but I’m also worried if I should even help her out? (I wouldn’t to going agasint my NDA, but I’m just worried mentor is just using me lmao and because of $$ im persuaded to take it). I also mentored with her when I was in a VERY vulnerable space so im just worried my people-pleasing tendency will get the best of me
Would love some outside prespective
I've see this post here before... or something almost identical. maybe do a search and see what came up for that other post.. edit: just found it: https://www.thefemaledatingstrategy.com//forum/career-education/my-mentor-wants-to-know-personal-work-information-about-my-new-job-for-her-business it was by the same author...
Did I read this else where or is this the first time you posted? Maybe I got some deja-vu lol
If it puts you and your career in an uncomfortable position, I don't think it's unreasonable to deny that request. What if you suggest that wouldn't mind helping her in a way that does not jeopardize your NDA?
