Whether the gaslighter is your direct manager, a coworker, a senior leader, or even someone who reports to you, its negative effects are the same.
Gaslighting can also decrease an employee’s commitment to their organization, according to a 2023 study, and it can affect your ability to do your job.
Great article! Just like with men, when our employer or supervisor disrespects us, we take decisive action to remove ourselves from the relationship. You can’t instantly block and delete an employer, but you can find a new job asap.
yes, working for a**holes definitely affects my ability to do my job.
I was continuously gaslit by the CEO I assisted until I resigned. Unfortunately I did not have another job secured to fall back on but I could not take the abuse anymore. The worst thing he ever said to me was when I asked him for a significant raise, his response was “the board is going to think we’re having sex.” I reported it to HR but of course he denied ever saying those words and said I made it up because he’d “never say something like that.” Believe me… he said those words.
