About a month ago I was approached to appear on an industry panel that's happening this week.
I'm giving up my time and it's going to cost me to Uber there and back since there's no parking in that area. I agreed to go since it's for my alma mater and I like to mentor the students.
The event schedule arrived early in the week, I opened it to find that both my first and last name were incorrect. It was the name of a Hollywood actress!!
My last name is in my company name, so it looks like I'm not the CEO of my own company. I saw red. Everyone received this document.
I immediately emailed the person who sent the PDF over and informed them of this fuck up.
Their response? To tell me how valuable my participation is and to offer me a $15 gift card.
I informed them I would not attend the event and wished them the best.
Boundaries, babe.
Pre-FDS me would have begrudgingly attended to avoid inconveniencing them by bailing the day before. Now? Pound sand.
Queen move ♟️👑
Good on you! I see so many people putting up with this kind of thing because they believe that the publicity will still benefit them in some way, but how much benefit it can bring if they’re so useless (and think so little of you) they can’t get your name right? Especially if they think that $15 will make up for their oversight.
How embarrassing for them. 🤦🏻♀️
