Hi Queens!
I’m sure I’m not the first person in this position. My boss has displayed deeply narcissistic traits, and is now upping the ante as they perceive me to be powerless: immigrant woman without deep networks in elite circles. Gray rocking is not an option as my job requires me to be proactive and engaging.
My main issue is the narcissistic abuse is deliberate as they want me to resign so that they’re able to avoid paying unemployment, and now I’ve been scapegoated by my boss/cofounder, who has also invited my colleagues and subordinates to join in the disrespect. If I’m fired they’re legally mandated to pay unemployment insurance. But I also dont want to get fired, and before I’m able to get a job, I’ll have to be strategic for the next couple of months and figure out how to not be triggered and emotional. And manage this situation/stop the escalation.
Are there any strategies that can help here?
Thanks!
Document everything. They have to have a paper-trail of you getting write-ups and poor performance to avoid paying that unemployment. If there's any sort of confrontation where you ask them to stop, be professional, please respect my boundaries etc, document that as well because they always retaliate. Record the retaliation as well. I say go ahead and start job searching now while you're ahead. One low tier narc manager has to nearly or actually destroy an entire business location before they get fired.
Blast your updated resume across the universe, collect yourself mentally and act super nice and engaged. do not resign. Do not get fired. Just vibe.
I left my 10/10 narcissistic boss (truly evil) after 5 years and I'm now in my dream job. It made all of the pain worth it. Heh.
