Hey ladies,
I’d love to hear your 3rd party thoughts on career decision that I’m making. FYI it’s more to gain other opinions but obvi will come to my own decision.
So I’ll be graduating from my professional healthcare program at the end of August. After graduating our school gives us options and recommendations for specific job portals to apply to. But most of the job searching and securing employment comes is left to us. I’ve decided where I want to specialize (paediatrics) and that I want to work in outpatient hospital setting (ideally a large/top childrens hospital).
I met a great mentor (HVW) who currently works in my profession (not speciality in paediatrics) and has offered me resume support. Because I’m also involved in her mentorship program she said that if I had interest in the hospitals in this city she would be happy and excited to help me network and figure out on the downlow which clinics are hiring. Essentially giving me a leg up against other applicants (including many of my classmates).
The issue is that I’ve been living here for grad school for 3 years and I’m interested in moving to the largest city in my state. The city that I want to move to has been a dream city of mine to live in. It’s a city that’s really geared for single lifestyle and as I’ve just recently turned 30 I want to live somewhere promoting that. I did previous research job at this dream city’s top children's hospital there (fyi I never lived there but commuted because I wanted to get into this program and decided to save money to reduce the debt I’d take) and I have built a connection to a clinical lead who offered that I send my resume when August comes (this was back in convo had Jan but we’ve spoken recently in June related to clinical case that I was gaining research for). Also I worked for my previous boss there (haven’t seen her since beginning of pandemic but had email catch up in December) who has a clinic that I’m interested in working in.
I’ve never been in this position before and don’t want to close off my options so would y’all think it’s wise to agree to resume support and that I an considering applying there and then continue to network with mg dream city and if I get offers for both to weigh them out and negotiate salaries. I’d love advice on how to navigate this process and some things that I should keep in mind.
Yes do both! You already have this figured out.
