In the US right now, news articles are talking about the supposed "shortage" of teachers, caregivers, and nurses. Schools and hospitals are scrambling because they can't get enough people to sign on - so many have left the field for less stressful similar paying jobs.
Traditionally these jobs are overworked and UNDERpaid but also are FEMALE dominated. This goes to show that society expects women to do the brunt of the work even for less than ideal wages. These jobs also get some of the most disrespect.
People are starting to say that these jobs need to pay more considering the amount of hours and the amount of work that goes in. Teachers are expected to make their classrooms look pretty, pay for it out of their own pockets, and then do a lot of work outside the classroom. Nurses and caregivers also do a lot of heavy labor, are on their feet, don't always get breaks, and put themselves in risky situations (covid, other sicknesses, even being around violent patients).
I know if these jobs were traditionally male, that there would be higher pay and more rights put into place. Look at the male dominated fields of trucking, plumbing, and electrician for example these are high paying careers.
I'm currently looking for a different job and am trying to know my worth and have boundaries and am really frustrated and sickened at seeing how much disrespect the female led jobs get.
PREACH!! The male-dominated media will talk about disrespectful customers, lack of job protections for workers, squashing of labor unions etc (which is all 100% true), yet they mysteriously ignore this massive issue in caregiving and childcare fields 🤔 I wonder why
I'm so glad that teachers and nurses get paid reasonably well where I live in Australia. 99% thanks to strong union action. I'm a teacher. Of course it could be better- they don't make as much as doctors, lawyers etc, but they definitely make more than truck drivers and tradies. A first year teacher makes $75,000 AUD which goes up every year for 10 years to a max of around $100,000 AUD unless you go into a leadership position for more pay. Nurses are paid similarly to teachers. We are definitely still not respected by society at large though, and overworked 😬. The teacher shortage here is mainly due to being overworked and disrespected.
Also I refuse to buy my own supplies, if the school doesn't have it I don't use it haha. 😅 Excluding cheap things like pens and stickers.
Same in the Netherlands.
It’s not because everyone didn’t want to work, it’s because people were fired and couldn’t work because of the plandemic.

According to this article there will be a worldwide shortage of 85 million.
Does it really effect people or does it effect the companies more? As far as I know humans are fine just eating sleeping bathing and chilling, everyone did just fine the last 2 years with that.
Don't forget receptionists and admin assistant positions are mostly female as well. Unfortunately, sometimes people do look down on them but they don't realize that they hold the office together and keep things running. I'm a receptionist and I've been trying to get out of it for 2 years now. It's frustrating.
Luckily I've had nice coworkers and don't get treated like crap, but I still hate it because it's stressful at times.
Quite similarly there are many men that refuse to be mechanics because they "have to buy their own tools" or instead quickly start their own shop where they are their own boss. Yet, teachers have had to buy their own supplies for decades. With the great resignation I do feel happy seeing more women recognize their worth and taking jobs that respect them more. It's really time for a change.
