Hi queens. I need to vent as I have been extremely ups in my job.
I have been working in this company for 2 years.
This year I was sexually harassed by someone who should be my tutor. He touched my breast and kept harassing me through messages and on MS teams. He is 66 years old.
Anyways, I reported him to my boss who was a complete asshole. He said I could be lying and that I should go to the police because what happened was just “jokes” (I showed the screenshot). Anyways, i had to insist to him to speak to the guy who was harassing me and ask him to stop. After insisting he decided to speak to HR and then HR called me.
They took 2 months to ask me to go in person explain what happened (which is already ridiculous). My boss in the meantime even continued to invite me to work meetings with the abuser, which I refused. I felt humiliated.
Anyways, I finally went there and they said they would do something.
Recently, after what happened, I went to my boss to talk about possible raises and what I should expect in the future regarding career development. Also because I want to buy a house next year and my wage is low.
Well, he treated me absolutely like a piece of shit. He said “I complain too much” and that I should look for something else because that was probably not the company for me. I don’t understand what he meant by “complaining too much”, probably because I reported an abuser and because I was unhappy with my salary.
We are talking about a 10.000 people company, one of the biggest in the country. They are spread around the entire country. Now, given that scenario I wonder what I should do:
1. Talk to HR to change groups and be completely far from this shitty boss and from this group where the abuser still works (HR already told me that probably he would not be fired, only if he harassed again);
2. Look for another job.
I know most of you will say: look for another job. I thought so but the company is pretty solid and I don’t get stressed by the job itself (apart the abuse and my terrible boss, but i don’t get to talk to him much). So I was wondering if it would be a wise move to ask to change groups or simply look for another job and let it go.
I am still overwhelmed by all of this, by the humiliation of being harassed and by being treated like shit afterwards.
I'm not in America, nor in Europe, so I don't really know about how things are done where you at, but does your boss have a boss? Some kind of upper management? So you can maybe contact them and tell that you've been harassed, but your boss not only dissmissed you, but became incredibly hostile.
Are you unionized? If so, talk to your union rep. If not, talk to a lawyer.
Document everything and start contacting lawyers.
Since your boss is clearly retaliating you have a pretty cut and dry discrimination lawsuit here. Its just a matter of money
After I reported SH the CEO wouldn't look me in the face. I was ignored until I was fired less than a week later. Start looking for a new job or a transfer within the company. Your boss has made it very clear there is no long term position for you. Run.
