I just wanted to thank FDS for making me realize that I shouldn't settle for anything I know will make me unhappy. It really does permeate into every facet of your life.
After my summer internship, the company I interned with offered me an onsite job in either Texas or North Carolina. I vehemently do not want to live in either of those places and I KNEW it would make me uncomfortable to accept, and I would just dread my graduation date instead of looking forward to it. They were not willing to negotiate a remote position, even though I knew that was bullshit because everyone on my team, including me, had been remote throughout my internship!! Ridiculous.
So I declined the offer, to a chorus of "You can't afford to be that picky as an entry level in this job market, you're being foolish and immature" on online CS message boards and a Discord server I've since left because of the negative scrotes-in-a-bucket mentality on there. 🦀
I had been really really worried that they were right, especially seeing all the tech layoffs happening recently, and seeing that there are about ~3000 applications per remote SWE job posted on LinkedIn within hours of it being posted. But I didn't give up, and sent out a ton of applications, and ended up getting 2 offers for onsite jobs that I'd have to move 3 hours away for.... but again, I really wanted to work remote, so I held out for a better one!
And I am SO glad I did!!! I feel so incredibly grateful and happy!!!! I know if I'd still been languishing with my LVM ex and in my pickme mentality I probably would not have made this happen. Thank you FDS for everything, I am so happy I have you ladies to share this victory with. 💖💗💕
Congratulations!
It's wonderful to learn that the options you're presented with are rarely the only ones available to you!!
So happy for you. FDS is a mentality shift. Once you know what you deserve, you never want to go back to settling in any area of your life.
Yay!! 👏 I love it when women stick to their standards. For what it's worth it has worked out to be picky for me many times, like when apartment or job hunting. People always tell you you want too much and you should be grateful for getting anything at all, bla bla bla. This is almost always bad advice. Don't settle for BS when you know it's not getting you anywhere. Congrats on the offer! I'm currently looking for remote positions myself so it gives me hope.
YAS!!! Congrats queen 👑 We love to hear it!
I’m still interviewing but I hope I can say the same in about a month’s time lol 💕
Amazing! Especially since you’re a woman in STEM, where there is still an exhausting amount of sexism. I am so glad you got the job you wanted. You most certainly deserve it!
I’m ecstatic for you! Congratulations!
Damn that's awesome! Many congrats to you!! Is it after undergrad or grad school you applied for this? After my degree well before covid I struggled for years to get to six figures then finally when covid hit landed something similar remotely w/ 6 figures! It's incredible the doors that have opened with remote work and I honestly don't know if I'd have been able to land it in the location i was based (south FL where cost of living is super high similar to NYC yet salaries are some of the lowest in the nation..it's sickening to live and work there). Graduated with my BA in 2014 worked for a year then traveled the world solo for 2 years, got back in 2017 and it took me until 2020 to get something six figures so that's like 4 years in the industry and getting conned on low salaries and shady sht in FL like docking my salary and not even telling me (low value narcissistic boss did this to me) before landing that dream Job. Covid did some very wonderful things to this country. It's amazing what these principles do to allow us to take no more sh*t off ppl! My motto is now 'don't start no sh*t there won't be no sh*t' with people just like that song lmao.
Ahhh this is so inspiring! Its so easy to second guess yourself esp when scrotes are discouraging you but when you know your worth and go for what you want without stepping down, you’ll eventually get it!
This really motivates to hold out for the best job for me as well!
Congratulations! ❤️❤️☺️
Love seeing these. I made a similar change thanks to FDS!
Brava, well done! Wishing you the very best success in your new endeavor. 👑
Congratulations you absolute queen 💜 you are an absolute inspiration. You are amazing in every single way!!! Cheers to you 🍾
Good for you! Congrats! I wish you much success in your new journey!
I’m so happy for you!!! Congratulations again. I’m glad you listened to your gut instead of those scrotes. They probably were just jealous that you got an offer after and internship, but they didn’t hear crickets after their internships. You 100% have to make decisions that will make YOU happy and not dread graduating school even if others were pressuring you. At the end of the day, it’s your life and you’re going to be the one in the office chair not them so I’m glad you did what’s best for you. I am so proud of you, Queen!!! I know how much you deserve this job 💖💖💖
Congratulations 🥳 👸🏼
