In attempting to level up, I've been seeing an increase in fake women's groups that purport to empower women but actually just allow corporations to say that they are helping women without actually doing anything to help.
Example: My company has a women's group (also trans-inclusive!!!) which talks about things like "work-life balance" and other tropes. They won't address sexism or misogyny in the workplace because it might hurt men's fee fees, although there is plenty of it.
Another example: I belong to a professional women's organization that offers "networking opportunities" and "hiring events," but they are just Zooms for a corporate recruiter to talk about how great working at her company is, but then not ask for resumes, or not do any recruiting, and everyone just awkwardly sits there on the Zoom listening to this advertorial. I decided to ask hard-hitting questions at these, like "How does your company handle harassment and sexism?" but the responses are canned and I can tell I'm making the recruiter uncomfortable.
These fake groups and activities allow the men who own corporations to make a profit by pretending to care about women. Has anyone been seeing this garbage?
The goal of liberal feminism is to further enrich the pockets of the capitalist class and advance male supremacy.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
That sounds so disappointing. I've never participated in any of those because I'm a lazy introvert haha. I agree it's all lipservice, and if anything, it's extra labor put upon women. If I were asked to join a women's group at my job I would decline. What's the point if I'm not getting paid to put in this effort for something outside of my regular duties? I suppose it could be useful for networking, but then you're networking with lipservicy women you don't even like!
People just arent ready for the actual advancement of women, so any attempt at women's development initiatives in professional spheres are hollow lipservice. Real pro-woman initiatives are impossible.
I was part of professional women's group that was genuinely women-lead, feminist, and valuable for the first couple years. Then the gender bullshit crept in, the radical feminist(s) in the leadership (me, just me) lost the argument against the faux-fems and it became a "gEnDeR mInOrItY" group where we were forbidden from using the word "female". Then if that wasnt bad enough, an MRA made a Title IX complaint because men were partially excluded from a portion of our events. Not because wanted to participate, obviously, because he wanted to shut us down because he hates feminists (women).
Now it's an 'everyone of all "identities" with no goals or purpose' group, and its completely worthless. Just how the patriarchy wants it.
Even UNICEF is trans inclusive when it comes to women's rights and empowerment related activities.
I don't expect comparatively smaller corporations to be any different.
A company I used to work for had one of these. Bu the time I arrived, it was already a hobby/social group that included men. I asked why it was still called Women At [company name], and they didn’t really have an answer.
I’m part of a women’s group. It’s an only women’s group. We are actually very active in the organization and discuss a lot of important topics form gender pay gap, unconscious bias, misogyny, etc. we then have women from HR on those meetings and they start putting plans together on how to tackle these issues. We also run an annual big webinar with female leaders and try to invite as much men to sit and listen as much as we can. We also run a month of women’s history and post daily articles, weekly sessions, etc including black history month. They also have goals to ensure there are at least 40-50% women executive leaders in the organization by 2024.
