If you haven’t read it, or not since you were a kid, consider reading the Island of the Blue Dolphins.
It’s a beautiful story about a girl who survives alone on an island for years. She builds houses, explores, finds food, and befriends animals.
The end was sad: she goes back to society and immediately back to being policed as a woman. But she does it for the sake of being in community again.
Anyhoo, I was inspired because I would love to live on an island alone. I enjoyed learning all the techniques she used to survive, and how she spent her days creating her world.

I read this book as a kid and it left SUCH a strong impression on me! I loved reading about her ingenuity to survive alone. But, she also was SO lonely, and missed her family.
There certainly some challenging parts of being truly alone, and without companionship of any kind. Doing everything necessary for survival, all by yourself, is simply not what humans evolved for. That said, I truly enjoy living with just myself and my pets. It’s better than any other living situation I’ve had.
I read this book in elementary school and loved it! Thank you for the reminder.
Yes thank you I love a good book recommendation!
