The film, "Women Talking" has arrived on Amazon Prime. Been wanting to watch this since it was released but haven't seen it showing at a local cinema here in the UK. If you haven't seen it and you have Prime, now's your chance!
And I also cheered at the end when the daughter and grand-daughter of Scarface Janz joined the exodus right at the last minute! (Wasn't being mean calling her that - it was her name in the credits!)
Never heard of it until now and just watched it!! I loved it. I felt like the whole movie was focused on the female space. They were able to articulate many aspects of patriarchy. Didin't focus on the horrible acts of abuse on the women. Definitely recommend it to all women.
It's good, isn't it? I've watched it twice already and have been thinking about it ever since. I read that they deliberately kept the location vague but that the author of the novel, Miriam Toews, was born in a Mennonite community in Canada (she left at 18) and that the story is loosely based on events that happened in a cult in Bolivia.
That one lady (the one whose kid was raped)'s speech was so powerful. I'm always here for female rage!
