This stray is insaaaaane. I had two female cats when I was younger. This dudes a whole different game. It may be trauma from being abandoned, but all he does is eat and force me to pet him.
He refuses to sleep with my back turned to him. He will crawl under the blanket until his face is next to mine. It sounds sweet until you realize it's a security thing for him. He refuses to not be on my lap or chest. I cannot leave without him "howl" meowing like his being bathed (you know the noise ..)
Any ideas for what to do after winter? I don't want some assholes adopting him for half a year then ripping his claws off before dumping him again.
Cat lady is just a petty insult made by men who still live with their mother and play video games all day, I met two women who they would call cat ladies for having pets but they have their own thriving company. Compare those women to first wives clubs or washed up tired bitter wives who are stuck with a man child. You should see how many women are at their breaking point while the cat ladies who value their careers sleep 8 hours a night.
Jesus, why wouldn't you WANT to be a cat lady? It's fantastic. Unconditonal love on tap from tidy creatures who have been scientifically proven to reduce our cortisol lovels with the sound of their purr? My three girls get the full run of my huge house, and when I want to go on a trip, there is a lovely lady who comes twice a day to look after them. I always look forward to coming home, because their sweet little faces bring me so much joy. A much, much sweeter deal than any man could provide!
Your boy is looking for love, is likely recovering from abuse dished out to him by men, and has chosen you to be his person. Give him some time. The rewards will be far greater than having some smelly dude farting up your sheets and eating your groceries while texting other women on the sly.
Would you be open to giving him a chance? Cats can change their behavior with the right incentives and a lot of patience/love. It makes me so sad when I hear about animals being abandoned and it'll only traumatize them further. It sounds like this cat just needs to become more secure over time that you'll be around and will return after leaving.
Theres this guy on youtube that I've learned a lot from and his avice works. I really hope you will give this little guy a shot. Maybe he can be a mostly outdoor cat when it gets warmer and you will have some space.
Get him neutered if he isn't and then either keep him or start looking for a good home for him now. Keeping him for the winter and then kicking him out or making him move somewhere else again is just cruel.
Edit: I'd be careful about letting a stray sleep in your bed before he's been checked and treated by a vet. Fleas and worms are a common problem and you can get them from him.
