By this I mean the statistics according to which the birth rate in the US, Europe, East Asia etc. is too low and below the replacement rate, which causes demographical issues in the long run. Basically we're going extinct because people don't have kids anymore while the population in developing countries (and the world in general) keeps increasing. Because of that almost all childless women are shamed because "they are the reason why the west is dying".
So the question is, what do you guys think? Personally because of all that stigma (and the fact that I don't want to see my country etc. literally dying) I feel immense pressure to have a ton of children, but deep down I want to remain childless or have only one kid (or two at most if I feel like it). I want to continue my bloodline one way or another, but I don't want to throw my entire life away to raise a litter. It's a shitty feeling and I wonder whether other people might have the same thoughts.
That it's the right step long-term. The last thing we need on this planet is more people and yes - the social systems will have to change to adapt to lower birth rates.
We need lower birth rates all over the planet, not higher ones in Western countries. Educated women with rights, access to birth control and the right to an identity outside of being a "mother" have fewer children. Birth rates go down wherever the education level of women and their access to birth control rises. That's a good thing and not something to fight. The world will be a better place when people start having only the number of children they can raise well and provide for with their own means and actually want.
We don't need to encourage Western women to have more children again. We need to fight to give our sisters in other countries the CHOICE to have no children or only one or two without negative repercussions.
EDIT: A lot of these discussions also go into pretty racist "have more white babies or the brown babies will take over at some point" territory which I find extremely disturbing.
There are quite a few animals (mammals) that will either not breed in captivity or kill their offspring.
Once you see the bars of your cage, it just makes sense for so many women to just not participate.
All-100%-of these headlines need to be rewritten as "Women Do Not Want To Get Pregnant and Have Babies with Any Men Because No Men Are Capable of Being Fathers or Husbands." That is what ALL of these headlines are reporting.
Women are tired of loser men. Getting pregnant by a man who only adds to your burdens makes zero sense. Now that men are optional, women are starting to realise they really don't need men as men bring almost nothing to the table except stress.
This is such a strange take for me being from England. There is no pressure to have multiple babies so I don't feel it at all. No one thinks about this in real life. Even in academic literature, no one is losing their mind. Every so often tabloid racist and misogynistic media or the film industry will release something but no one talks about this in the real world. It's very much only something white men and weird white Christians talk about online.
I 100% believe it's happening because women are growing tired of men, they don't see it's worth having kids with men because most men do nothing. it's been like that in every family, finding a man who knows his place and duties is like finding a 4 leaf clover.
But the government would never ever give women the salary of a celeb to make motherhood less dreadful. Women need to make kids but when they struggle they get no aid because it;s their fault according tot them.
No, you're mistaken. The global population and the poulations of all regions and almost all countries are growing. The rate of growth is slowing, but it's still growing. The US population is expected to grow by 34mil over the next 30 years.
Unfortunately. The human population has been unsustainable for a long time. People dont seem to understand that land area on earth is finite, and non-renewable resources are *actually* non-renewable. The idea that tech cann save us from running out of farm land is science fiction. Either we reverse population growth willingly, or famine amd disease will do it for us.
As an American, i only see pressure to have a ton of babies from white supremacists and religious wackos who want to flood the world with Jesus soldiers. And sometimes its just regular moids who believe that women are obligated to be bare-foot and pregnant. Sometimes those moids even infect this here forum, trying to subtly enforce the idea that women damn well ought to want a ton of babies. Can you believe that? Moids are such pathetic losers sometimes. I wish I could tell them to get a life, dont you?
None of that affects me, though. I'm child free and no one really gives me a hard time about it. But I'm anxious about the fact that we're closing in on 10bil people worldwide.
People are not going extinct. The Earth is overpopulated already. Only in Africa they have more than 2 children per women, everywhere else the demographic shift has finished. There is no obligation for women to have children. If anything it's better to have children later, so you don't have multiple generations squeezed on the same small patch of land.
Who cares? Who cares what color the race of humans is destroying everything around them? If we had more white people, the world would not be better. We'd probably industrialize even further. And fuck American white legacy. We brought nonwhites over to do work without getting paid. Let them inherit everything at our expense - not even kidding.
I love it. I can’t wait until humans go extinct. No more men 🎉
It's not something I've deeply studied, but from my own experience and observations/listening to others I would say these factors contribute (in no particular order):
'feminism'. ie women not putting up with being treated as objects/possessions, and men not stepping it up in response.
people (men and women) having had bad childhoods and thinking they don't want to bring anyone into that kind of existence (without realising they actually can break the pattern/s, if they want/choose to).
people feeling doom and gloom about the state of the world and future and not wanting to bring a child into it
people believing that the world is over populated and humans = bad, so they think that they help by bringing less humans into the world
people simply not wanting/valuing children/family because they believe they are fully fulfilled by other things.
some western cultures in partuclar have very anti-family stance.
edit: (forgot to add) cost of living prohibitive for many in the lower and (quickly disappearing?) middle classes. People/families used to be able to survive on one income and a standard job. Now many 2 parent households in sevearl parts of the western world struggle with 2 x full time salaries, let alone all the single parenting (by choice, or not). + simply attaining your own home is near impossible in several developed nations. = Difficult to provide for/afford children.
Also, I think as we move further and further away from nature (both literally in our concrete jungles, our food, synthetic everything, 'augmented' and artifical realities, and also within ourselves - with the trans - human era shortly upon us - people lose touch with their biological impulses (may also be contributing to the whole trans-gender situation). Not making a comment on any of these beeing good/bad or right/wrong. These are just my observatoins.
does it have to be one or the other?
What's the deal with this "fate of the world rests of my shoulders" mentality? You are only a single person, rather grandiose of you that you having one or 20 kids is gonna move the needle in a significant way. Recycle, be a good person, have babies or not, but it's weird that you think in these grandiose ways about "saving Western civilization" or whatnot. Gonna be blunt, but... You aren't that important. Not really. You are important to the people in your life and loved ones. Rest of the universe? Eh. You can get die in a car accident tomorrow and nature and western civilization won't notice, only the people who know you. Don't be shitty to them and you'll be fine.
I didn’t realize until recently that “fertility” could be used to mean birth rate as well. I think it’s very problematic to use terminology that can be misconstrued this way because it implies there’s some health issue making women incapable of conceiving. There are definitely major issues with lack of resources for women who wish to have children, the lack of dependable men and the price of a hospital birth and many other issues. However, I don’t understand how it’s a crisis when everyone with a brain and a desire to have or care for children has been complaining about the impending issue for decades.
The cost of living and lack of support for mothers, people moving away from their families, housing shortage.
It’s ironic that Europe is encouraging people to have less children due to “climate change”, meanwhile they’re promoting mass immigration. If you import the 3rd world, you become the third world.
The solution is to make it easier for the west to have families (stop overtaxing everyone and working us to death).
Men suck, life hard, margarita good, job is fullfilling.
Holy shit this post… Disturbing as fuck. Not only racist but internally misogynistic. I’m from Europe so I recognize the talking point. I’m guessing you are from Europe as well. It comes from extreme right winged (neo nazi) political discourse that is prevalent in red pill and other populair conspiracy theories. Supposedly the “left” has an agenda to erase whites and they do so by slowly letting in more immigrants. Another way is by making feminism the norm. Feminism leads to fewer children and thus the further erasure of whites. I’m from the Netherlands and there is a political party that seriously propagates this. And now I read it here on fds.
There is such a strong ethnocentric vibe that I seriously wonder why some are answering you as if you didn’t say anything disturbing.
You think the world will regress if white culture is erased? The average IQ in Asia is higher and science was way ahead in the east when people in Europe were still walking around in animal fur. Europe industrialized extremely fast due to colonialism and not by talent or grit.
You also say that Europe has to help other countries with women rights? Before colonialism most societies were matriarchies. Patriarchal society is western society by origin. It signified civilization according to your forefathers and it distinguished the “evolved European civilization” from the barbaric brown where women were relatively “free” and thus uncivil.
(The exception being the Islamic world. Ironically, they conquered and enslaved parts of the world too).
The west has so much issues with sexism that it can hardly help the countries where they helped spread the patriarchal message in the first place. Classism and racism are just useful tools to maintain the patriarchy. If one falls, all of them fall. I’m always surprised how many women fall in the age old trap of xenophobia and racism. You deserve better.
