I work with a Scote who constantly has women dropping by his desk for a chat (Never men, most men avoid him). He is terrible at his job, overweight, ugly, sweats a lot, smells bad and wears torn unclean clothes. He is also married with a small child (he never talks about them, doesn't wear a ring etc.)
He's also a pretty big bully to other younger men in the company.
He constantly flirts with every woman near him, and they eat it up. They constantly drop by his desk and disrupt everyone around him.
I think it has to do with the fact that many women (not only pickmes) center men ( and romantic relationships with men). Can’t really blame them due to societal upbringing, but what comes with it is women with low self-esteem and never having learnt to love themselves truly, wanting to have some validation from almost anyone who is giving them the attention they crave
I think it has to do with the fact that women are heavily penalized for not coddling men, and also that they are incentivized to compete with each other because that can secure them some (small) situational benefits. It is more of a protective instinct than anything else, I believe. Side with men and you'll be somewhat safe, for now. That's the idea. Of course women never truly come out on top in this dynamic, but it's maybe a lesser of two evils kind of thing
I wish I had the answer but I can't fathom it. Even in my worst pickme, Barb the Builder, forever girlfriend phase, I was still too busy caring about my own stuff to care about randos hitting on me.
Low self worth.
Pickme's are guilty tripped into being nice to men like that, I'm not sure It's true but I've seen a post on a site where a humpty dumpty social outcast wants to pay a beautifful tall woman to come to his work asking for him and they will have a small chat for the other collegue's to see and then she'll get paid.
