Weird topic, but this has been on my mind lately and it feels like an FDS type of discussion. I'm also in the process of getting in touch with my feminine side again and am scheduling a manicure soon, after being shamed for it for so long by the men in my life (cue the "long nails means that a woman is hIgH mAiNtEnAnCe and no man likes that" comment... 🙄).
Anyway, I've noticed that pretty much every man in my life and especially on the internet (ESPECIALLY Reddit), love to vocalize how much they HATE long, painted, manicured nails on a woman. They have very "logical" reasons for this - they're not functional, they're not hygienic, and of course the main one (gasp) it's a sign that the woman is high maintenance and they run in the opposite direction immediately because eww who wants a high maintenance woman?
But then, I look at the women who are considered the "most beautiful in the world" through the eyes of men. The models, celebrities, porn stars, even women in my local area that men chase after... literally ALL of them have long manicured nails.
Is this just another way that men lie to us? Claiming they don't love feminity and just want us to be a low maintenance "cool girl" but then still go after the high maintenance woman despite the shit they say? Do they secretly love how feminine and pretty it makes a woman look, despite them claiming they hate it because of how "impractical" it is? (Let's be real ladies... having short nails IS technically more practical, but I think that this reason that men spew for hating long nails just isn't the full truth)
I'm actually pretty fascinated by the complete disconnect between men hating on long nails while simultaneously chasing after or lusting after their "dream" women who have those long nails. FDS, what do you think about this?
Ultimately it's because they're jealous that you're able to look beautiful and they can't. They don't only mock nails, but also hair, makeup, jewelry, dresses, heels, anything feminine. It's because they can't do that stuff, so they feel inadequate. Que Ken's theme song. They wish they could be women.
It's also to neg you and "put you in your place."
Growing up my family made fun of me like this for trying to look pretty. But I noticed that other girls were allowed and encouraged to look pretty.
Insecure men are intimidated by women who dress well, take care of her nails, hair etc.
I think men want us to look beautiful, but without any effort. That's their fantasy. We should drink beer like a bro and eat junk food with them, but somehow maintain a size 2.
Men hate long manicured nails for the same reason they hate traditional female hobbies/movies/music/colors... because it's not *those* things they actually hate, it's the fact they're associated with femininity.. and let's take it further by saying it's not femininity they hate, it's women. Anything associated with women is hated by men because men don't *like* women, they're sexually attracted to women.
To me this just emphasises how men only see women in an objectified and materialistic way. Like owning the next new iphone or the next cool car - they’ll froth over the colour, shape, etc. “it’s all the rave! A must have! And it's customisable!!”. Women are a commodity as if to say “buy yourself a woman with a body like this and then you’ll be happy/powerful/cool”. Men are contradictory in what they want in a woman because they don’t actually know what they genuinely want or they have these deep suppressed feelings and take it out on women. No thanks.
Not the answer you are looking for, but I get my nails done because I love them. It has never once occurred to me that men might not like it (and if it had, it wouldn't stop me).
I don't think its men lying to us, it's either some men stating a preference or trying to destroy something women enjoy.
Unrelated, but I went to a new nail salon recently. It is owned and operated by women. The one male that works there is on the front desk. He takes the bookings, payments, brings customers cold drinks and cleans up each nail station after the tech has finished her work. The gender flip had me lost for words. It was the first time I was truly able to see how men have run businesses for years and why they don't want to give up their power.
They don't like the long manicured nails and women they see as high maintenance because they know they're broke and can't afford her.
Yes, porn stars and celebrities like Khloe Kardashian have long fake claws. Yes, they are lusted after and receive attention from men due to their overt sexualization.
Plastic long nails are fun but they are trashy.
Hate my opinion if you will.
Scrotes hate what they want but can't have.
I dunno, all the men I know legitimately dislike the long nails, and are more or less indifferent to a manicure that's "natural length".
Yes, lusting after celebrities has that whole asinine "beautiful with no effort" thing, but I don't think men are specifically noticing their nails at all. They're distracted by the boobs and hair and butt. If they did happen to notice claw nails, I don't think it would be a plus. But hey, it's still a beautiful woman 🤷🏼♀️
Misogynoir. The long coffins nails came from black women and they hated us in the first place
‘Cuz men want what they can’t have 😝
