I used to bartend and I had to take a state-mandated training that discussed watching out for your customers, spiking drinks, etc. So I would have higher hopes that a bartender (even a male) would understand these things happen. Wow
My thoughts on this are twofold. On one hand, what a clueless idiot.
On the other hand, my dad’s drink actually WAS spiked, in his 50s, in a bar he’d been going to for his entire adult life. They don’t worry about such things, but if they weren’t so egotistical as to feel utterly invincible, they might realize that they *should. I’m not denying that females get their drinks spiked far more often, but such drugs can be used to incapacitate anyone, and the motive can be anything from sexual assault to robbery to a plain desire to hurt and humiliate.
Seconded. Men do get their drinks spiked. I actually saw warnings specifically warning men to watch their drinks, too, and not to accept drinks from strangers in a popular holiday destination recently because it's apparently pretty trendy among thieves now to spike a prospective victim's drink and then steal their stuff or even pretend to be a friend bringing their "drunk" buddy back to the hotel room and then clearing that out as well. I totally believe they specifically target men because they are less careful with their drinks and will most likely be too ashamed to go to the police and tell them the pretty lady at the bar drugged and robbed them.
Men are either clueless idiots or they don't take it seriously because the worst thing that's going to happen to them is someone stealing their wallet and phone, not getting raped and murdered.
This made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. That kind of attitude from that side of the bar makes me wonder if he’d dose an empty glass intending it for her upon her return.
He knows. He's negging her to make her feel stupid and paranoid for being precautious (like the man who put zipties on women's doors as a "joke").
He probably wanted to spike her- that's why he got so annoyed .
Never assume a man "doesn't know" or "doesn't get it" that how you get got.

They're not clueless. Stop acting like these dudes are all stupid.
They know.
