Thank God i re-read FDS

Ok today morning I was scrolling thru the old FDS on reddit and was reading the post about no BS advice and it mentioned that to not do too much for your male friends. I had gone for a urban sketching session with my guy friend, altho we are good friends we have a complicated history as his friend is also my ex. I try stay away from that topic, we were discussing something about his birthday and i totally forgot about it and i told ill get him something, even though i offered it, the gift suggestion is lil expensive and it felt like a gf kinda gift? anyways thank god i read fds again cuz why was I going gf stuff for a man who is not my bf? I will keep things amicable by giving a lower range 'friend-only' kinda gift, cuz he's good friend but I am also a lil broke this month, i just got the ickiest feeling while ordering the gift so i cancelled so something in my conscience makes sense even though I cannot name it right now. Did I do the right thing?
