I remember a few times in my life when I got a short/er/ish cut and the male visceral reaction was just so negative! When asked what they didn't like about it (that's me, always asking for reasons, but having come to realize people can't always articulate their reasons), their answers never made sense. Still don't really get that. What I remember is the looks of hate and disgust and dislike. It's hair! It'll grow back! What's the big deal? Plus it's comfortable and I thought cute at the time. Anyone else? I'm fascinated at women's hair stories from part one with wavy/curly plus all the "should" BS. I cannot imagine ever telling someone else what they should do with their body! Mind boggled.

LVM internal monologue: Damn, if she had no problem cutting her long hair off, she'll have no problem cutting me off.
Slightly more in-depth analysis: A lot of men, especially LVM, find markers of femininity (i.e. conformity and compliance) more attractive than actual women, which is why they'll chase after a so-so looking woman (or even drag queens/transwomen) with all the bells and whistles (long salon hair, perfect nails, boob job, tight clothes, whatever) and completely ignore an objectively better looking woman just because she has short hair, for example.
“I like long hair on a woman, because if it’s short I’d think a dude is giving me a blowjob”
"It's hair! It'll grow back! What's the big deal?"
I know you don't mean it that way but I just want to mention that "It's just hair" is not true for every woman and I find it really triggering. Cutting a woman's hair against her will has been used to punish, ostracize, humiliate and shame them in many cultures and throughout history.
I have long hair and you wouldn't believe how many assholes I have heard gleefully "joke" about cutting off my braid or the hair of another woman in public.
When a friend of mine grew her hair out her abusive POS boyfriend cut her braid off while she was sleeping because he didn't like it and presented it to her in the morning. When she was crying he said exactly what you said: "It's hair, what's the big deal?".
In the SM scene many "doms" (aka abusers) demand that their "subs" (aka victims) cut their hair off or even shave their heads to exert power over them and humiliate them.
I remember reading disgusting online comments by men about an episode of a model casting show where the candidates were styled and some girls where "encouraged" (aka forced) to cut off their hair and cried during it. They said they only watched that part of the show and really got off on it.
Would you say "It's hair! It'll grow back! What's the big deal?" to a woman who is devastated about losing her hair during a cancer treatment?
Growing your hair to certain length often takes years and a lot of time, money and effort goes into many hairstyles. Even if we leave religious/spiritual connotations of doing/not doing certain things with you hair aside, how women wear their hair is meaningful and important to them.
I used to have waist-length hair when I was younger. One day I decided to cut it short, and this older man in my (then) church got all mad about it. Kept saying “your hair looked so nice! Why would you cut it? You look like a boy now!” Finally one of the older church ladies asked (in front of everyone) “why are you worried about her hair? She’s not your wife.” He shut up after that. But i seriously don’t get why men are so concerned with what we do with our hair. They think we need their approval to cut it, dye it, even to show it in some cases! Wtf?
Well, there are guys who love short hair on women. Is that any better? I've had short hair and had dudes who are "into" it will complain when I grow it long.
At the end of the day we need to de-centre men's opinion from our choices and just do whatever we want with our hair.
My hair is super short rn bc I was dumb enough to think I could get Indian hair to white blonde and ended up having the chop to salvage it. Men are personally aggrieved by this it seems, like my short hair somehow ruins their lives! On the flip side I’ve had guys who’ve found a way to sexualise it, saying how sexy they find short hair on women and how “other women can’t pull it off bc they don’t have a face like that” and it’s like ??? Scrote did I ask?
They just want you to be feminine, so they can look masculine in comparison.
However, there's also an aesthetic reason for sure and here I kinda get it.
I am myself Almont exclusively attracted to men with long hair.
Hair really does make the difference.
So interesting point, I find men have gotten more aggressive with me when I've had pixie cut style hair. Maybe they think I'm a lesbian and they're hostile? I got mine cut short again like that recently for convenience, and I love it. I want someone who loves me as I am, farts and all, and I think femininity is a spectrum, not a formula, so I may just keep the hair short.
Long hair = youthfulness and conformity. Short hair = gonna make you work for your relationship
My last ex literally got mad when I trimmed my bangs into curtain bangs (and they looked cute AF!) He always preached to me how I should never cut my hair, etc. He was super controlling and misogynistic.
