Yeah, I hate it too. But I wouldn't have a problem with it, if they reacted normally. I'm 30 and whenever they hear about my age, they make a scene, because apparently I look younger? It's annoying lol.
Wow, this proves that to scrotes, it is not about "looking younger is better" because if you look young for your age, they still freak out that you are that age. It's about manipulating younger girls, ew ew
I'm 29 and experience the same. In some cases, like @artemis mentions, it almost feels like they [scrotes] hope I'm that young (18 - 21) to potentially manipulate. So while yes they make a scene, you can lowkey sense a bit of disappointment too, lol 🚩.
But the main reason I hate the "how old are you" question is because of what usually follows. Eventually comes the ageist negs, slick comments, & trying to find any little thing (grey hair strands, fine lines, etc.) in attempts to knock me down a notch. I've had both LV men & women do this but I understand it's them projecting their insecurities onto me. It also reminds me of this comment I saw once on another forum: "I was never called 'old' based on my looks, only when they learned my age". So while I do hate the question, it could turn into a vetting opportunity by seeing how they treat you afterwards.

I do. I always respond laughingly"Oh, I never talk about age! Such a boring subject!", and just let it hang there until they say something else. If they persist, I just smile serenely and continue to say nothing. Men haaaaaaate it. I look very young for my actual age, and they never know where to place me. If they can't place me, it fucks up their lazy little game about what they think they know about me/how they should value me based upon my age. It's marvelous.
I can see how it would grate on you since society has this distaste for women for simply not dying right after they hit the age of 30. Their intentions might not be just to ask you an icebreaker so they can gage where you are- or should be- in life since most women looking younger than they actually are. Unless you're like 21 trying to enter a bar and people just want to know they aren't letting a little girl in- then there should be nothing to worry about 😅

Replying to
'Their intentions might not be just to ask you an icebreaker' Even if it was, what kind of icebreaker is asking someones age?

Definitely one of the more shittier questions you can ask a woman in this culture. I used to dread this question, but then I just decided to own it. Ask them how old they are back or say you go first.
It's like a trick question because you can't show that you're ashamed of your age or have a problem with the asker. The person who asks you how old you are is an asshole.

Such a rude question! Just say, “Why do you ask?” And stare at them while they squirm. Do not answer.
btw This works for any rude, personal question.
I do get asked sometimes in an innocent way just because I look younger.
