Hi Ladies,
For those of you who struggle with PTSD or CPTSD after coming out of narcissistic abuse or toxic relationships, what kind of supplements have you tried to help with symptoms? It's bad enough we suffered abuse and even worse whwm we realize we basically have developed a permanent stress disorder which causes adrenaline to be pumped through our bodies 24/7 even while sleeping which is extremely exhausting to deal with. Also not to mention the constant hypervigilance, looking over our shoulders, strong dislike of groups and crowds and jumpy when we heae loud noises. It's ruined my life in so many ways and its like the NVM gift that keeps on giving because of what they did to us which permanently damaged our brains and triggered this disorder to develop, while the abuser skipped off happily into the sunset with their new victim unaffected. I recently tried GABA and it seems to help relax me a bit. I don't like pharmaceuticals or SSRIs since they cause me to get bad anxiety and agitation.
I know there are a few natural supplements available to help with symptoms but I'm just wondering your thoughts and experiences?
Thanks!
I‘ve had really good results taking ashwagandha.
Ashwagandha is great for reducing cortisol levels and supporting nerve function. It’s also an excellent anti-inflammatory.
I grew up in an abusive home and was in several toxic relationships that led me to self-medicate with hard drugs. I got sober six years ago and credit ashwagandha with helping my body and mind recover from my trauma. I tend to ruminate and have bad adrenal dumps, and ashwagandha really helps me w/ that.
There are some shady supplement manufacturers out there, unfortunately. I use Nootropics Depot as they test their products for contaminants/heavy metals. I’m a big fan of their KSM-66 ashwagandha.
I’ve also had good results using magnolia bark and skullcap for relieving stress. You may want to make sure that you don’t have any vitamin deficiencies (stress can deplete our bodies of essential nutrients and can also prevent the absorption of nutrients).
I really sympathize with your post and hope you find relief. Be gentle with yourself and try to eat the best quality food you can. A high quality diet and loving self-care have helped me so much.
You can have Magnesium powder diluted in water before bed time.
You can also have valerian, camomile, passionfruit or lemon balm tea before bedtime.
St. Johns Wort, NAD+, L-Tyrosine, Glycine, B complex and CBD oil
i take protein supplements because i’m a weightlifter and sometimes i can’t be bothered to eat two pounds of meat per day.
i love tea with roses, jasmine, butterfly pea flower and anything else that smells lovely and tastes earthy, slightly sweet, green and/or floral.
