My friend has gone down the conservative/conspiracy theory (no offense to those who believe, I respect your opinions) rabbit hole lately and I'm concerned because it's also affecting the way she sees women too. She's been sending me a lot of posts regarding Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson and I've verbally mentioned how both are misogynistic assholes. Tate has been placed under custody for human trafficking in Romania and my friend has said "I haven't seen him charged or found guilty". I then responded saying that he's still a tremendous threat to women and even sent her an article or him VERBALLY expressing violence against women. She then responded saying "He still hasn't been charged so until then he's innocent 🤷".
I respect her opinions and she respects mine, but she's been making everything political lately. Again, no offense to those who believe.
I believe in guilty until proven otherwise when it comes to men. Literally, every time I hear alarm bells, I’ve never been wrong and neither are you. It’s worse when it’s a female friend, but consider she might’ve met some guy and is letting him brainwash her. Might be a lost cause.
Does she not care that he’s literally a rapist and theres videos of him proudly confessing to raping multiple women?
Tell her that's not what "innocent until proven guilty" means. "Innocent until proven guilty" is a judicial policy where the courts, jury, and criminal justice system have to treat a suspect as innocent unless found guilty in trial. By extension, the media have to avoid referring to suspects as if they're guilty, because if the suspect is found innocent, then to media personnel can be sued for defamation.
What "innocent until proven guilty" does NOT mean is 1) that the person is actually innocent until the trial ends, 2) that private citizens in their private lives may not have opinions about whether or not a suspect is guilty, 3) that private citizens in their private lives may not express those opinions.
Additionally, an innocent verdict doesnt mean the suspect IS innocent, per se. It means that there wasnt sufficient evidence to prove that they were guilty. SO, even if andrew tate is found not guilty, we can STILL, as private citizens, have and express the opinion that tate commited violent crimes against women.
Sorry. Your friend seems a little dumb. Explain that to her and then ask her what good reason she has to believe he isnt guilty.
It doesn't sound like she is respecting your opinions at all.

I know what you are going through, OP, I have one of those in my life. Except she isn't a friend, but my mother.
