I don't think her opinions are all that wild . I understand Harry Potter wasn't perfect either, but I don't get how she's hated so much recently. Some things she's said that people call transphobic don't seem all that transphobic to me? I don't know. Also can someone copy paste the article if they get past the pay wall??
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/16/opinion/jk-rowling-transphobia.html
She's hated bc she's an independently wealthy woman who wasn't afraid to speak her mind frankly and politely -despite going against the popular narrative. In addition to being an opinionated dissenting woman, she has refused to apologize for disagreeing!
She was, and continues to, act with dignity. She never acts out or does anything she knows would warrant an apology- she is simply disagreeing, and explaining why she disagrees.
*And all men, regardless of their fashion, hate that
Ok, I’m gonna give two answers that few people want to hear, but I’ve been following this sort of thing for like 25 years.
So many people who think they are progressive are very very misogynistic and don’t realize it because misogyny is not considered an actual form of oppression, even when people pay lip service to the idea of sexism being bad.
The trans community has slowly been infiltrated by actual perverts and predators, and they’ve dictated the current direction of the movement which is why it’s becoming more homophobic and misogynistic and racist and so on. Twenty years ago, I thought feminists and Gay rights advocates would be able to work with trans activists for the foreseeable future. I no longer see this possibility, because the trans community has allowed actual predatory people (mostly males) to control the narrative and direct the agenda. It’s very scary for women and homosexuals but also very scary for those of us who have trans people in our lives whom we deeply care about. There will be a backlash because the predatory people are becoming too emboldened, and this will unfortunately Result in negative impact mostly for people who have nothing to do with any of this, who are just trying to live their lives And survive.
what’s happening now is that actual pedophiles and actual predators are showing themselves in the movement, and those who point it out are called bigoted. There will be a breaking point, but there will be a lot of misogyny and predatory behavior towards women like JK Rowling in the meantime. These predatory males (not all trans women, I’m talking specifically about males using the trans movement to gain power and attack others) are taking advantage of progressives general concern for oppressed groups, and we’re seeing the results of the infiltration of oppressors into a marginalized community.
She hasn't said anything hateful against people who call themselves trans. Thats a horrible, slanderous lie. She has however said plenty of transphobic things - HEAR ME OUT - because it's "tRaNsPhObIc" to say that "transwomen" arent exactly the same as women. And it's "tRaNsPhObIc" to say that biological sex is real, and that it matters. And its SUPER "tRaNsPhObIc" to prioritize women's safety and dignity over the feelings of gross, pervy men who refuse to respect women's boundaries.
People (moids and pickmes) hate her because she doesn't bow to the whims of men in dresses like a good little trans-maiden. Worse yet, she advocates for womens rights. Men hate that. Kinda like how they hate FDS.
I think she will be remembered as a feminist icon rather than a “transphobe”
Shes one of the most prominent women out there actually fighting for our rights. She stands up for all women.
It’s like a group called her a transphobe as well as other things and everyone just ran with it because they can’t think for themselves or they’re scared of being called a terf.
When you actually ask people what she said you can’t get an answer out of them. Because they all tell each other not to read her essay or tweets. So they actually have no knowledge.
n I think these people think they are on the “right side of history “
However in time we will look back and see irreversible damage that’s been done to woman and girls and our rights. I can’t see a group of people trying to take those rights away and threatening rape and death to women they disagree with as being on the right side of history.
You have to remember any famous , well known (or not well known) feminist was absolutely hated in her time too. There were woman who disagreed with them as well. This is why I think JK Rowling will be remembered for her activism and being a feminist icon rather than wrongly being called transphobic
She said nothing wrong in my opinion. I’ll be getting Hogwarts legacy just to piss the angry mob off even more.
Ill be honest, its because at the end of the day, transwomen are not women. Whats more, trans really are getting the short end of the stick. They are mentally ill men who are abused in several ways:
1. Medicine and big pharma who validate them to make a quick buck. A plastic surgeon will never tell anyone to love themselves; you got the money, you'll get the breast implant, no problem. Same as hormones, they have to take that stuff until the day the die if they want to stay "feminine". Ditto make up industry.
2. Clueless family members who enable them because dealing with a mentally ill loved one is just hard.
3. Woke idiots, usually white upper class, who go along with enablement just to stick it to conservatives/Republicans (who, granted, are assholes but still). I dont think its right to use the sick as cannon fodder, but they dont care. Someone is gonna be stuck with the medical bills and since they are not the ones chopping off their dicks, who cares?
Fucking tragic all around.
Not a fan of HP
But definitely a fan of JKRowling, simply because she is confident about her thoughts and opinions without wishing harm on anyone. Afaik
Wasn’t she a victim of domestic violence as well?
https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/
- the article that made me realize I don’t dislike her.
She's a wealthy (by her own merit) intelligent white woman who had the nerve to tell men no. She has power and influence and is using said power and influence to benefit women and girls by making it harder for predators to get to them. How dare she!?
Women speaking up for women's rights is considered transphobic these days.
All valid points. I will add that in addition to the classic misogyny there is an element of youthful insecurity. The trans ideology is both itself very young, and infects a large number of teens and young adults who are still figuring themselves out. It's very vituperative, like a teenager... and there's a safety in that when you are identifying as trans.
I know of a boy who identifies as a girl, but it seems what happened is that the young feminine homosexual boy was bullied very badly by his classmates. As a transgirl whenever anyone makes the slightest transgression they are the worst person on earth; a transphobe! That boy feels safer as a girl because no one is allowed to bully him anymore - he can emotionally detach from it. Teen ideology does not allow for a nuanced discussion, and someone said JK is anti-trans rather than pro-woman, so let's jump on the hate bandwagon
Simple answer: because she speaks the truth lmao
It's frustrating because all my lib femme Harry Potter loving friends have come out of the woodwork to say they feel conflicted supporting JK Rowling when she's transphobic.
The argument points they bring up are as follows:
1)She wrote a hateful mystery book in which the killer turns out to be a Trans woman.
-I have not read this book, so I have no rebuttal on this, only noting that it was common in movies and shows from the 40s to show a distrust of Trans people in general.
2)She's a TERF I did not know what this was so I had to go home and look it up. Guess I am a TERF. Why all these ugly sounding terms? Get off my Terf and off my lawn. Go on, scram!
3) Her vitriol against the violence against Trans people are unfounded. There are no rapes and no proof that Trans people are violent. Never happened. - This was in reaction to me bringing up that she helped by funding womens rape centre's and I applaud her for that. And also, I don't see anything wrong with women who suffered violence by men feeling uncomfortable with their space invaded by men.
It's virtual signaling. Most of the people who hate JK are walking contradictions LOL.
"I don't like JK. However, I bought Hogwarts Legacy to fulfill my inner child. I appreciate the artistry."
"I'm going to stream Hogwarts Legacy and donate all money to ____ organization."
"Whenever I got to HP world I make sure to wear my trans flag so everyone knows I support trans kids. And JK can suck it."
They hate her but they're still out here playing make-believe in the world she created. It's almost laughable. They want to have their cake and eat it too.
She’s rich. She’s powerful. She’s beautiful. She claps back and then some.
It’s not about her being “transphobic”, which she is not. Her words have just been twisted to allow perverse men the delusion of control over her as they try to convince the rest of the world to boycott her and related IP’s.
Oh hey, Hogwarts Legacy #1 on every platform.
Oh, give it another five years, they'll love her again.
I believe it was this:
— The arguments from the TRA are despicably to protect the rapist’ trans rights over women’s safety. I think HE was eventually sent to a man’s prison —

Holy bigotry batman.
